FREDONIA, N.Y. --
A defensive lapse by the Elmira College women's soccer team early in the second half proved to be the difference this evening, as the Soaring Eagles dropped a 5-1 non-conference decision to Fredonia. Jordyn Rousselle '18 scored Elmira's lone goal of the night, her fifth tally of the season, in the closing seconds of regulation on an assist from fellow senior Kerri Clark '18.

The Blue Devils of Fredonia held a 19-11 lead in shots, including a 13-7 advantage in shots on goal, as well as a 3-0 edge in corner kick attempts. Elmira's Rachel Grampp '18 and Ali DeSalvatore '20 combined for eight saves in net, while their counterpart from Fredonia, Kendall Owczarzak, made six stops in 90 minutes of action. Grampp finished tonight's game with six saves, while DeSalvatore turned away two.

The opening 35 minutes of tonight's match was tightly contested, as both teams took four shots apiece. However, Fredonia's fifth attempt of the night opened the game's scoring, as Shania Platt netted her first of two goals in the 37th minute on an assist from Audrey Yokopovich. Platt's goal sent the Blue Devils into the halftime break with a 1-0 lead.

Elmira's defense did a solid job in the first half of limiting Fredonia's shot attempts, but the Blue Devils ramped up the pressure in the second half by scoring a flurry of goals in a 15:05 span, which pushed today's contest out of reach.

Yokopovich began the second-half scoring with a tally in the 55th minute on an assist from Platt. Just under two and half minutes later, Aleeya Clemons padded the Fredonia lead to three with a goal of her own. Assisting on Clemons' goal was Yokopovich, once again, and Abby Price.

Just 5:07 passed until Yokopovich added to her point and goal total, as she found the back of the net for a second time in the 63rd minute on an assist from Clemons. Fredonia's scoring rounded out with Platt's second strike of the night, this one coming in the 70th minute on an assist from Lynda Croft.

With the game drawing to a close, Elmira's Rousselle cut into the Fredonia lead with her fifth goal of the season at the 89:41 mark. Clark was credited with the assist, her first of the season and the second helper of her three-year stint with the Purple and Gold.
