Men's Cross Country
Last Week: Elmira had its best showing at the Empire 8 Conference Championships with a seventh-place team finish. Pacing the pack was James Fritsche '18, who navigated the 8K course at Parkview Fairways Golf Course in Victor, New York, with a time of 30:48.70 to finish 41st out of the field of 72 runners. It was the fifth-fastest time at the E8 Championships by a Soaring Eagle in their brief history. Jarrit Himmelreich '18 ran a personal-best 32:32.90, which was the seventh-fastest time by an EC runner at the conference championship race.
 
Next Race: EC will conclude the 2017 season at the NCAA Division III Mid-Atlantic Regional Championships on Saturday, November 11, at the Field of Dreams Cross Country Course in Houghton, New York. The 8K event is scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m.

Women's Cross Country
Last Week: Similar to the Elmira men, the EC women also finished in seventh place at this past Saturday's Empire 8 Conference Championships. Claire Preisch '21 continued her stellar freshman season with a 28th-place finish thanks to a 6K time of 27:03.30. The 28th-place finish by Preisch was a program-best and her time was the third-fastest mark of her debut season. Caitlin Malanowski '20 and Irene Zimmerman '19 came in 46th and 56th place, respectively. Malanowski navigated the course in 28:17.20, while Zimmerman produced the second-fastest 6K time of her career at 29:58.60.
 
Next Race: The Elmira women will also conclude the 2017 season at the NCAA Division III Mid-Atlantic Regional Championships on Saturday, November 11, at the Field of Dreams Cross Country Course in Houghton, New York. The 6,000-meter competition is slated to begin at 12:15 p.m.

Field Hockey (3-14, 1-6 E8)
Last Week: The Soaring Eagles posted a 1-1 record in a pair of one-goal games last week. EC suffered a tough 5-4 overtime loss to Keuka on the road on Tuesday night, before rallying from one-goal down to defeat the Golden Flyer of Nazareth in the 2017 season finale at the Murray Athletic Center. Rookie Janie Kempf '21 registered the first hat-trick, and first by a Soaring Eagle in over 14 years, of her collegiate career against the Wolves. Atu Machika '18 also found the back of the cage for her third tally of the season. Katie Carroll '18 picked up two assists, while Megan Brain '18 was credited with one. Then in the home tilt against Nazareth, Elmira surrendered the game-opening goal in the 42nd minute, but rallied with a pair of goals from Brain and Sarah McCaffrey '18 in the final 12 minutes of regulation to seal the 2-1 win. The two seniors earned their first goals of the 2017 campaign, while Emily Selbert '20 and Carroll were credited assists. Senior netminder Julie Hockenberger '18 made seven saves to collect her second win of the season.
 
Men's Ice Hockey (1-1-0, 0-0-0 UCHC)
Last Week: Elmira opened the 2017-18 season against a pair of top-10 ranked opponents in No. 10/9 Hobart and No. 7/7 Oswego State. The Soaring Eagles rode the heroic efforts of Matthew Cuce '20 to a 3-2 overtime win against the Statesmen of Hobart in the season-opener at the MAC on Friday evening. Cuce scored twice in the contest, including the game-winner 2:52 into the overtime period. Cuce was one of two players with multi-point games, as Harry Kramer '20 and Connor Powell '20 were each credited with two assists on the night. Rookie forward Anthony Mangano '21 opened the scoring for Elmira with a power-play goal, his first of the year, 1:31 into the second stanza. After topping the Statesmen, Elmira traveled to Oswego, New York, to face the seventh-ranked Lakers. EC went up 2-0 in the first period on goals by Nick Ford '20 and Anthony Parrucci '20, but Oswego rallied with four unanswered goals to secure a 4-2 comeback win. Freshman goaltender Jake Sabourin '21 made a combined 81 saves in the two games, including a 42-save effort in his debut between the pipes against the Statesmen. The 42 saves are the most by a freshman goalie in his debut start in over 18 years.
 
Next Game: Elmira opens play within the United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) this Friday, November 3, when the Soaring Eagles host the Valiants of Manhattanville. The puck is set to drop at 7:00 p.m. inside the Murray Athletic Center in Pine Valley, N.Y.

Women's Ice Hockey (0-0-0, 0-0-0 UCHC)
Last Week: Elmira did not play a game last week, but will play in this Saturday's season-opener as the country's fourth-ranked team, according to the latest U.S. College Hockey Online (USCHO) national poll. The Soaring Eagles moved up one spot from the preseason poll into a two-way tie for the No. 4 ranking with Wisconsin-River Falls and are the only UCHC affiliate with a national ranking once again this week.
 
Next Game: Elmira opens the 2017 campaign with a road tilt versus former ECAC West Conference rival, Oswego State, this Saturday, November 4. The puck is set to drop at 3:00 p.m. at Oswego's Marano Campus Center Arena.

Men's Soccer (4-11-2, 2-4-1 E8)
Last Week: Although the Elmira men went 1-1 last week, the Soaring Eagles ended the 2017 campaign with a bitter taste in their mouths, as EC was eliminated from E8 postseason contention. Elmira opened the week with a 2-1 non-conference win over King's (Pa.), as seniors Brendan Wise '18 and Tony Barraco '18 scored goals for the Purple and Gold. It was Wise's second goal of the year and Barraco's first of the 2017 season. Rookie Josh Broyles '21 was credited with an assist on the Barraco's goal, which went down as the game-winner.  Jacob Mattice '21 made three saves and collected the win in 45 minutes of work. Fellow freshman Anthony Lipp '21 came in for relief duty and made two stops in the second half. EC concluded the week with a Friday night tilt versus Sage in a win or go home match in Albany, New York. A goal off of a free kick in the third minute propelled the Gators to a 1-0 victory, which eliminated Elmira from postseason contention.
 
Women's Soccer (1-14-1, 0-7-1 E8)
Last Week: The Elmira women saw their season come to a close last week with a pair of losses to conference foes St. John Fisher and No. 5 regionally-ranked Nazareth. Elmira held a pair of brief one-goal leads against the Cardinals in both the first and second halves. Sara Kazerouni '18 gave EC a 1-0 lead in the 19th minute with her third goal of the year on an assist from Kerri Clark '19. Following a Fisher goal to tie it at 1-1, Clark put the Purple and Gold out in front, 2-1, with her first goal of the season in the 57th minute on an assist from Lily Kronick '21. Unfortunately, the Cardinals struck for three unanswered goals over a 25:22 stretch to solidify a 4-2 win at Campus Field. Then in the season finale in Rochester, New York, Elmira dropped an 8-0 decision to the Golden Flyers of Nazareth.
 
Women's Volleyball (20-13, 3-5 E8)
Last Week: The Purple and Gold closed out the 2017 campaign with a 2-3 showing in non-conference road matches. Elmira earned wins against Baruch and Bard at the Dig Pink Invitational, hosted by the Red Dragons of SUNY Oneonta. All three of Elmira's losses last week came in five sets to Keystone, Oneonta and Hartwick. Natalie Schieder '19 led Elmira with 99 kills (4.50 per set), 15 aces (0.68 per set), 98 digs (4.45 per set) and seven blocks (0.32 per set). Schieder produced 20-plus kills in four of the five matches, had double-digit kills in all five contests and logged four double-doubles. Tiara John '19 and Lauren Smith '21 chipped in on the offensive end with 43 and 42 kills, respectively. Taylor Kaznowski '19 orchestrated the attack with 173 assists for a per-set average of 8.24. Defensively, Kasey Campbell '19 led the charge on the floor with 106 digs (4.82 per set), while Karina Hastings '19 added 12 blocks that included 11 block assists.
