Men's Cross Country
Last Week: The Elmira men concluded the 2017 season this past Saturday at the NCAA Division III Atlantic Region Championships at the Field of Dreams Cross Country Course in Houghton, New York. Elmira finished 42nd at its first regional championship in program history with a team score of 1,298. Senior James Fritsche '18 once again led Elmira to the finish line with a time of 29:09.40, his fastest 8K time of the season and fourth-fastest of his collegiate career. He became the first runner in EC's brief history to finish first for the team in each race in a single season. Jarritt Himmelreich '18 (31:21.80), Ben Southern '18 (31:28.70) and Anthony Abate '19 (31:27.60) all produced personal records at the 8,000-meter distance as well.

Women's Cross Country
Last Week: Elmira wrapped up the 2017 campaign at the NCAA Division III Atlantic Region Championships at the Field of Dreams Cross Country Course in Houghton, New York, this past Saturday. The Soaring Eagles claimed a 40th-place finish at their first-ever regional championship in program history. Claire Preisch '21 paced the Purple and Gold to the finish line with a 6,000-meter time of 25:43.30, the fifth-fastest 6K time in program history. The rookie became just the second runner in the last four years to lead the Soaring Eagles to the finish line in each race of the season. Irene Zimmerman '19 (29:56.80) produced the second-quickest 6K time of her career, while Caitlin Malanowski '20 (27:18.20) ran the third-fastest 6K of her EC career.

Men's Ice Hockey (3-3-0, 2-2-0 UCHC)
Last Week: The Soaring Eagles went 1-1 in United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) action in a pair of road games last weekend. Elmira opened up the weekend with a 5-1 setback to Nazareth in Rochester, New York. Spencer MacLean '20 gave the Purple and Gold an early 1-0 lead just 1:51 into regulation by scoring his first goal of the season. Anthony Parrucci '20 Adam Eby '20 were credited with assists on Elmira's lone goal of the evening.
 
Elmira turned its fortunes around in the weekend finale against No. 7/11-ranked Utica by throttling the Pioneers by a 5-1 final score at the Utica Memorial Auditorium. The win was EC's second against a nationally-ranked opponent this season, after edging former No. 10/9-ranked Hobart in overtime in the season-opener, 3-2. MacLean (1g-2a) and Matthew Cuce '20 (1g-2a) led the Purple and Gold with three points apiece and MacLean's lone goal went down as the game-winner. Nick Ford '20 and Parrucci each finished with two points apiece, as both skaters produced one goal and one assist. Connor Powell '20, Harry Kramer '20 and Ryan Blais '21 all finished with one point. Powell scored his team-leading third power-play goal of the season, which is tied for fifth-most in the country, while Kramer and Blais had one assist apiece. Gennaro Anzevino '21 earned the win for the Soaring Eagles, after making 40 saves in his collegiate debut between the pipes. He recorded 32 of his 40 save in the first two periods of the contest, including a 19-save second period.
 
Next Game: Elmira continues its four-game road trip this weekend with a trip to the Reisterstown Sportsplex in Reisterstown, Maryland, on Friday, November 17, to face UCHC foe Stevenson University. The puck is set to drop at 7:00 p.m.

Women's Ice Hockey (3-0-0, 2-0-0 UCHC)
Last Week: The Elmira women opened UCHC action with a pair lopsided road wins against King's (Pa.). EC outscored the Monarchs 20-0 in the two-game series, which included a 9-0 win on Saturday and an 11-0 victory on Sunday. The Soaring Eagles set a new program record during the 9-0 win for most shots on goal (82), a school record that stood for 14 years. Additionally, all 18 skaters listed on the Elmira roster registered at least one point, while both goaltenders earned a shutout win.
 
Leading the offensive efforts was Katie Garanato '19, who amassed seven points on four goals and three assists. She produced a career-high four points in the 9-0 win, which included her first collegiate hat trick. Sarah Hughson '18 (3g-2a) and Shannon Strawinski '19 (2g-3a) were not far off of Granato's pace, as both forwards ended the week with five points. All three of Hughson's goals came on the power play, as did four of her five points. Three of Strawinski's points came in EC's 11-0 win, as she produced a pair of goals and one assist. Tristen Tolan '21 (2g-2a) and Kiana Melvin '20 (1g-3a) added four points apiece, while Rachel Grampp '18, Louisa Lippiatt Durnell '18, Devyn Gilman '21 and Meg Lahey '19 added three points apiece. Kelcey Crawford '18 moved into sixth place in program history for career wins (33) thanks to a four-save shutout performance in game one, while Elizabeth Hanson '21 earned her first collegiate win in shutout fashion in the series finale.
 
Next Game: Elmira resumes its UCHC slate with a pair of league games at the Murray Athletic Center, starting with a 7:00 p.m. showdown against the Mustangs of Stevenson this Friday, November 17.
