Last Week: Elmira finished last week with a 1-1-0 record in a pair of games against State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) opposition. EC started the week with a 5-3 setback at the hands of SUNY Potsdam on Tuesday evening at the Murray Athletic Center. Nick Ford '20 led the Soaring Eagles by scoring two of the team's three goals, the first of which came on the power play. Despite falling behind 3-2 after two periods, the Soaring Eagles battled back to tie the score at 3-all following a Matthew Cuce '20 power-play strike with 8:23 left in regulation. On the goal, Connor Powell '20 was credited with his third assist of the night, which is a new single-game career-high for the sophomore. Unfortunately for Elmira, the late momentum did not last, as the Bears scored twice in the final minute to take the non-conference tilt.
Â
The second game of the week saw the Purple and Gold challenge No. 4/4 SUNY Geneseo at the MAC on Saturday afternoon. The Knights scored the first two goals of the contest, the second of which came at the 12:23 mark of the second period, but Elmira mounted a thrilling comeback. EC answered with its first goal of the day off the stick of Mitch Atkins '19 with just under two minutes left in the second stanza. Ford then knotted the score at 2-2 on a beautiful breakaway goal with 2:12 remaining in regulation. With a mere 0.9 seconds left on the clock, Spencer MacLean '20 tipped in the game-winner, securing a 3-2 victory for the Soaring Eagles. Just as he had done against the Bears, Powell was at the center of multiple goals in the contest, as he finished with two assists. For the weekend, the Merrimack, New Hampshire, native an assist on five of the team's six goals.
Â
Next Game: Elmira continues its season-long five-game homestand this weekend with a pair of United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) bouts at the Murray Athletic Center. The first game will take place on Friday, December 1, when the Soaring Eagles challenge Chatham University at 7:00 p.m.

Last Week: The nationally-ranked Soaring Eagles faced their toughest competition of the young 2017-18 season over the weekend at the UNO Classic, hosted by Plattsburgh State. EC, however, more than stepped up to the challenge, beating No. 6/6 Middlebury by a 4-1 final score in the tournament opener and topping former-No. 2/2 Plattsburgh, 4-2, to claim the UNO Classic Championship. It was the first win for the Purple and Gold over the four-time defending national champions since February of 2015. Rookie forward Emma Crocker '21 paced the offense with four points in the two-game span, including season-high three points (2g-1a) against the Panthers and the game-winning goal versus the Cardinals. The tournament MVP award was given to senior goalie Kelcey Crawford '18. Crawford stood on her head against Plattsburgh, making a program-record 62 saves in one of the finest goaltending performances in program history. For the weekend, the fourth-year netminder from Purcellville, Virginia, allowed just three goals and made a combined 95 saves.
Â
With the two nationally-ranked wins under its belt, Elmira surpassed the Cardinals for the No. 2 spot in both the USCHO and D3hockey.com polls, as announced on Monday afternoon. It's the highest ranking for the Soaring Eagles since coming in at No. 2 in both polls on December 12, 2016. In the D3hockey.com edition, EC was given three first-place votes, but No. 1 Norwich swept all 15 first-place votes in the USCHO version.
Â
Next Game: The No. 2/2-ranked Soaring Eagles will resume UCHC play on the road this weekend, as Elmira travels to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, for a two-game series against Chatham. The opening puck drop for the first bout versus the Cougars is slated for Friday, December 1, at 7:00 p.m.
