This Week: The Soaring Eagles are gearing up for another season of college basketball, and to kick off the new campaign, Elmira will host its annual Hoops Hysteria event this Thursday, November 9, at 9:15 p.m. The doors at Speidel Gymnasium will open at 9:05 p.m. and the first 300 students in attendance will receive a free Hoops Hysteria t-shirt. Students who attend will also be given five raffle tickets for a chance to win several great prizes. Please check back at the EC Athletics Website for further details on this year's event.

Men's Ice Hockey (2-2-0, 1-1-0 UCHC)
Last Week: Elmira opened play within the newly-formed United College Hockey Conference (UCHC) last weekend with home games against Manhattanville and King's (Pa.). The Soaring Eagles held a one-goal lead in the second period against Manhattanville, but the Valiants rallied with three unanswered goals to secure a 5-3 league victory. Then in Saturday night's bout against King's, Elmira found the back of the net seven times to secure its first UCHC win of the season, 7-4. Second-year forward Nick Ford '20 had phenomenal pair of games with seven points (5g-2a). Ford had a goal and an assist against the Valiants, before scoring a career-high four goals in the win over King's. Matthew Cuce '20 had a five-point weekend, which included a four-assist effort in the King's contest. Connor Powell '20 added four points (2g-2a) over the weekend, three of which were logged against the Monarchs. Charl Pretorius '19 made 21 saves in 60 minutes of action, as the Pretoria, South Africa, native collected his first collegiate win for the Soaring Eagles.

Next Game: Elmira returns to action this Friday, November 10, when the Soaring Eagles travel to Rochester, New York, to take on the Golden Flyers of Nazareth in UCHC action at 7:00 p.m.

Women's Ice Hockey (1-0-0, 0-0-0 UCHC)
Last Week: The Elmira women opened the 2017-18 season with an impressive road win against the Lakers of Oswego State, 4-1. Elmira's special teams played a large role in the win, as the Purple and Gold went 3-for-9 (.333) on the power play and a perfect 8-for-8 (1.000) on the penalty kill. Stealing the show though was senior forward Sarah Hughson '18 and her hat-trick performance. The East Haddam, Connecticut, native score a pair of power-play goals and the other went down as the game-winner, as Hughson set career-high marks in goals (3) and points (3). Rookie Devyn Gilman '21 registered her first career goal in the win as well, while Shannon Strawinski '19 and Meg Lahey '19 each added two assists. Additionally, Rachel Grampp '18, Maddie Evangelous '19, Kristin Chivers '19 and Katie Granato '19 all finished with one assist apiece. Senior netminder Kelcey Crawford '18 picked up her 32nd career win by making 17 saves in her first start of the 2017-18 campaign. For their efforts, the Soaring Eagles climbed the USCHO national poll to No. 3 this afternoon.

Next Game: Elmira opens conference play with a pair of UCHC road contests against the Monarchs of King's (Pa.). The first of two games is scheduled for Saturday, November 11, when EC travels to Pittston, Pennsylvania, for a 3:00 p.m. tilt.
