ELMIRA, N.Y. -- The Elmira College men's ice hockey team continues its United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) schedule this weekend with a pair of road contests. Elmira travels to Rochester, New York, to take on the Golden Flyers of Nazareth (Nov. 10), before concluding the week with a bout against No. 7/11 nationally-ranked Utica (Nov. 11). Both contests are scheduled to start at 7:00 p.m.
 
WEEKEND OVERVIEW                            
  • Elmira continues its United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) schedule this weekend with a pair of road contests against Nazareth and No. 7/11 Utica.
  • The two road matchups are Elmira's first UCHC games away from the Murray Athletic Center, after going 1-1-0 in last weekend's conference-opening contests.
  • After playing on home ice in three of their first four games of the year, the Soaring Eagles will embark on a season-long four-game road trip starting with Friday's clash with the Golden Flyers of Nazareth.
  • Elmira heads into the weekend tied for third place in the conference standings, as does Utica, while Nazareth is tied for seventh.
  • The Purple and Gold will be searching for their first road win of the season and the program's first road win since November 22, 2016. 
 
A LOOK AT LAST WEEK                           
  • Elmira opened UCHC action with a 5-3 loss to Manhattanville last Friday night, before downing King's (Pa.) by a three-goal margin, 7-4, in the weekend finale.
  • EC improved its record on home ice to 2-1-0 this season.
  • Nick Ford paced the Purple and Gold with a phenomenal seven-point weekend on five goals and two assists. Four of his five goals were registered in the win over King's (Pa.).
  • Matthew Cuce produced five points (1g-4a) in the two games, while Connor Powell added four points (2g-2a).
  • Charl Pretorius made 21 saves against King's, 11 of which were registered in the third period, to earn his first collegiate win as a Soaring Eagle.
  • Jake Sabourin finished with 31 saves in the loss to Manhattanville.
 
SCOUTING NAZARETH                             
  • The Golden Flyers head into Friday's matchup with a 1-2-0 record (0-1-0 UCHC).
  • Nazareth opened the 2017-18 campaign with a 5-2 win at home against SUNY Cortland, but has come up short in its last two games to SUNY Geneseo, 4-2, and Utica, 2-1.
  • John Power (1g-2a) and Matt Manzella (0g-3a) share the team lead in points with three apiece.
  • Manzella is the team's leader in assists (3), while Oliver Janzen paces the Golden Flyers in goals (2).
  • Michael Tilford has gotten the start in net in each of Nazareth's first three games. He owns a .931 save percentage, a 2.72 goals-against average and has amassed 108 saves.
 
SCOUTING UTICA                        
  • The Pioneers are off to a strong start with wins in all three of their games thus far into the 2017-18 season (3-0-0).
  • Utica was voted by the coaches around the UCHC to win the league this season, according to the UCHC preseason poll. UC received eight of the nine possible first-place votes.
  • Roman Ammirato leads the Pioneers in points (5), assists (5) and heads into the weekend with a three-game point streak.
  • Dalton Carter and Justin Derlago share the team lead in goals with two apiece. Both of Derlago's have come on the power play.
  • Patrik Virtanen is 2-0-0 on the year with a 2.00 goals-against average and a .930 save percentage.
