Men's Basketball (1-6, 0-0 E8)                                                                          
Last Week: The Soaring Eagles traveled to New York City for a pair of challenging non-league games against Manhattanville and NYU. Elmira began the weekend with an 86-64 setback at the hands of Manhattanville on Saturday. Anthony Abate '19 paced EC in scoring with 12 points in just 16 minutes off the bench, while Justin Porrett '19 (9 pts-9 rbs) and Henry Cuffee '19 (10 pts-8 rbs) both came close to recording double-doubles. In the second game of the weekend, the Soaring Eagles battled the Violets of NYU to the final whistle, but ultimately fell by a 100-93 final score on Sunday afternoon. Cuffee continued his strong play to begin the year, as he tallied 24 points and 10 rebounds for his fifth double-double of the season. Finishing second on the team in scoring was Jeremy Every '20 with 20 points, the second game of his career with 20-plus points.
 
Next Game: The Elmira men return to action on Saturday, December 16, when they welcome St. Lawrence to Speidel Gymnasium for EC's first home game since November 19. Tip-off for the non-conference contest is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.

Women's Basketball (7-0, 0-0 E8)
Last Week: The Purple and Gold picked up their seventh consecutive win to start the 2017-18 season on Tuesday, December 5, when they topped Clarks Summit, 73-41, at Speidel Gymnasium. The 32-point win is Elmira's largest margin of victory this year. Rachel Vespucci '19 was exceptional in the bout, as she scored a season-high 16 points to go along with nine rebounds. Sophomore forward Emily Breheny '20 posted a career performance against the Defenders, recording single-game highs in both points (10) and rebounds (11) for her first career double-double.
 
Next Game: The Soaring Eagles will conclude the 2017 portion of their schedule with a pair of games at the D3 St. Pete Classic, which will be played at the MacArthur Center on the campus of Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, Florida. Elmira starts the tournament on Wednesday, December 20, with an 11:00 a.m. bout against Berry (Ga.).

Men's Ice Hockey (6-6-1, 3-4-1 UCHC)
Last Week: Elmira won its lone game last week, defeating the Lions of Bryn Athyn by a convincing 5-2 final score on Tuesday, December 5. The tilt was highlighted by three-point performances from linemates Connor Powell '20 (3a), Matthew Cuce '20 (2g-1a) and Nick Ford '20 (1g-2a). Ford and Powell continued impressive consecutive-game point streaks with their multi-point performances, as both have recorded at least one point in five straight games. EC rookie Joe Smith '21 tallied his first collegiate goal against the Lions, which went down as the first game-winning goal of his young career. In net, fellow freshman Gennaro Anzevino '21 made 18 saves to earn his team-leading third victory of the year.
 
Next Game: The EC men will not return to the ice until Friday, January 5, when they compete at the Boston Landing Collegiate Invitational at the new training facility for the NHL's Boston Bruins, the Warrior Ice Arena. Elmira begins the tournament with a 3:30 p.m. showdown against the Camels of Connecticut College.

Women's Ice Hockey (10-1-0, 6-0-0 UCHC)
Last Week: The No. 2/2 nationally-ranked Soaring Eagles split a pair of non-league games against Amherst at the Murray Athletic Center on Saturday and Sunday. Elmira became the last team in Division III to take a loss or a tie with a crushing 3-2 defeat in the series opener on Saturday. The Purple and Gold bounced back the following day, however, shutting out the Mammoths, 2-0, to head into the holiday break with a 10-1-0 record. In the victory, Kelcey Crawford '18 became just the fifth Soaring Eagle in program history to record 1,000 career saves, as she finished the weekend with 1,031 saves in her illustrious career. Emma Crocker '21 was the lone Elmira player to record multiple points in the two-game set, as she posted an assist on Saturday and scored the game-winning goal in Sunday's triumph.
 
Next Game: Second-ranked Elmira will enjoy the holiday break before returning to action on Sunday, January 7, at the annual East-West Hockey Classic, hosted by Norwich in Northfield, Vermont. EC will challenge No. 4/4-ranked Adrian in the first round of the tournament, which will serve as a rematch of last year's NCAA Tournament Quarterfinal bout.
