ELMIRA, N.Y. -- The Elmira College baseball team scored four times in the first three innings on Wednesday night, but the Pennsylvania College of Technology bullpen stifled the Soaring Eagles throughout the remaining innings, as the Wildcats earned a 9-4 win at historic Dunn Field.

Dylan Bellinger '17 jump-started the EC offense with two outs in the bottom of the first inning, as the senior slugger lined a 2-0 pitch from Penn College starter Max Bair just over the wall in left for his fifth home run of the season. Jansen Crossley '20 followed with a single and he came around to score from first when Richard Lennon dropped what should have been the third out of the first in left field.

Lennon atoned for the miscue by doubling and scoring on a wild pitch in the top of the second, which cut the Elmira advantage in half, 2-1. The Wildcats then pulled ahead by one with two more runs in the third. Nathaniel Lowe opened the frame with a single and Cody Cline followed with a double down the left field line. Lowe then tied the game on a sacrifice fly, and Cline touched home on an RBI groundout to take a 3-2 lead.

The Soaring Eagles used some more two-out magic in the bottom of the third to regain the lead, 4-3. Despite being down in the count 0-2, Tommy Fogarty '20 hit the opposite field gap in left center to plate Conor Bawiec '18, who reached on an infield single earlier in the inning. The freshman from Wayne, Pennsylvania, would score on a delayed double steal, swiping home as Dennis Rudolph '18 drew a throw to second.

Despite the early offense, Penn College limited the Purple and Gold to just one hit in the final six innings. That hit was a two-out triple off the bat of Bawiec that landed just out of reach Penn College's a diving right fielder near the foul line. Bellinger was walked in the ensuing at-bat, giving EC runners on the corners down 7-4. However, a hard hit ball by pinch-hitter Matt van Muelken '18 resulted in a routine fly out to center, thwarting the comeback attempt.

Turning Point
With Elmira trailing by three runs, 7-4, following the seventh-inning stretch, Bawiec pulled the first pitch he saw from Penn College reliever Hunter Thomas down the right field line. Lowe nearly made a diving catch, but the ball landed fair and rolled into the corner, giving Bawiec enough time to reach third for a two-out triple. Recalling Bellinger's first-inning dinger, Thomas wisely gave the EC first baseman a free pass. The right-handed hitting van Muelken, representing the tying run, was brought in off the bench to face the southpaw, and while it sounded like the junior from Fairbanks, Alaska, made solid contact, his hard-hit fly ball was caught in center field for the third and final out of the frame.
