Men's Cross Country
Last Week: The Elmira men placed 10th at the 27th annual Oswego State Invitational on Saturday afternoon in Oswego, New York. Senior Jarritt Himmelreich '18 stole the show for EC at the event, as he recorded a new personal-record time of 33:24.70 at the 8,000-meter competition. At the top of the Purple and Gold's leaderboard was fellow senior James Fritsche '18, whose time of 30:40.80 was good for 65th place overall. In his first collegiate 8K race, Anthony Abate '19 crossed the finish line next for the Soaring Eagles, completing the course in a time of 33:27.00 to finish one spot behind Himmelreich in 83rd.

Next Race: The Elmira men will race again next Saturday, September 23, when the Soaring Eagles return to Marcy, New York, to compete in the Wildcat Classic. The event is scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m.

Women's Cross Country
Last Week: As she has done in all three of her collegiate competitions, rookie Claire Preisch '21 again paced Elmira at the 27th annual Oswego State Invitational on Saturday afternoon. The product of Milton, Pennsylvania, finished the 5,000-meter course in a time of 21:57.60 to take 36th place at the event. Preisch was closely followed by sophomore Caitlin Malanowski '20, who placed 58th on the leaderboard with a time of 23:03.80. Junior Irene Zimmerman '19 also had a strong showing at the invite, as she completed the course in a time of 25:47.50, the third-fastest 5K time of her career, to finish 89th.

Next Race: The EC women will compete next on Saturday, September 23, when they will take part in the Wildcat Classic, hosted by SUNY Poly, in Marcy, New York. The race is slated to start at 10:00 a.m.

Field Hockey
Last Week: EC played non-conference foe Oswego State in a tight one-goal setback on the road on Wednesday, September 13, before falling at home to Empire 8 Conference rival, Washington and Jefferson. In the midweek tilt with the Lakers, the Soaring Eagles tallied season highs in goals (4) and shots (35), and were able to snag a 3-2 lead just 1:02 into the second half. Monica Harvey, however, had a hand in Oswego's next three goals and led her team to a 5-4 come-from-behind win. Despite the season-high offensive output in Oswego, New York, Elmira returned home on Saturday, September 16, and was shutout in a 5-0 E8 loss to the Presidents.

Next Event: The Soaring Eagles will open their season-long four-game road trip on Tuesday, September 19, when the Purple and Gold travel to Brockport, New York, to take on the College at Brockport. The battle with the Golden Eagles is slated for 7:00 p.m. at Bob Boozer Field. After opening the 2017 fall campaign with a 1-0 victory over Keuka College, the Golden Eagles have suffered five consecutive losses, three of which were against E8 competition.

Men's Golf
Last Week: The Elmira men's golf team played three rounds last week, beginning with the one-day Keuka College Fall Invitational on Wednesday, September 13. The Soaring Eagles placed seventh out of 11 teams at the Lakeside Country Club in Penn Yan, New York, by carding a 365 (+77). Charl Pretorius '19 paced the squad in a tie for 11th place with an 11-over-par 83. Over the weekend, the Purple and Gold played the first half of the Empire 8 Conference Championships and sit eighth out of the nine-team league heading into the spring portion. Freshman Matt McGaugh '21 had an outstanding second round at the E8's on Sunday, September 17, when he recorded a season-low 79 (+7) and climbed into a tie for 21st place.

Next Event: The EC men will travel to the Yahnundasis Golf Club in New Hartford, New York, to participate in the 36-hole Utica College Invitational on Saturday and Sunday, September 23 and 24. The par-71 course, which is the former home of the fall portion of the Empire 8 Championships from 2011 to 2014, measures 6,792 yards from the championship tees and is considered one of the finest courses in the Central New York area.

Women's Golf
Last Week: The Purple and Gold opened the 2017-18 season at the William Smith Invitational last weekend and placed eighth out of the 11-team field with a cumulative score of 777 (+201). Individually, senior Audrey Clarke '18 began her final collegiate season by tying SUNY Cortland's Danielle Bambola for medalist honors, as both carded identical scores of 162 (+18). Clarke was 8-over at the par-72 Clifton Springs Country Club through the first round, before turning in an 82 (+10) on day two. Her shared victory not only helped the Churchville, New York, native take home Empire 8 Co-Player of the Week honors, but moved her into a tie for first-place all-time in program history with six tournament wins.

Next Event: The EC women's golf team will also continue the fall season at this weekend's Utica College Invitational at the Yahnundasis Golf Club. The opening round kicks off on Saturday, September 23, and the 36-hole tournament concludes on Sunday, September 24. Despite its reputation as one of the tougher links in the area, Clarke posted her career low round on the second day of the 2016 Utica Invite with a four-over 77, two strokes shy of the program's record round.

Men's Soccer (1-6-1, 0-1-0 E8)
Last Week: The Soaring Eagles suffered a pair of losses to RIT and Houghton, the latter of which was an Empire 8 Conference defeat. Elmira fell to the Tigers of RIT in Rochester, New York, by a 3-0 final score, before dropping its conference-opener at Campus Field to the Highlanders by a single goal, 1-0. Â Elmira's offense was held to just 10 total shots combined in the two games and just two of those attempts found their way on goal. Jacob Liese '20 did not allow a single goal and made one save in the second half against RIT, while rookie Anthony Lipp '21 got the start and made five in the opening 45 minutes. Liese also turned away seven shots in the loss to Houghton. Additionally, EC hosted Brockport this afternoon and fell to the Golden Eagles by a 1-0 final score.

Next Game: Elmira travels to Rochester, New York, to face the Golden Flyers of Nazareth College in Empire 8 Conference action on Saturday, September 23, at 1:00 p.m. EC will be in search of its first conference win of the year and its first win over Nazareth since the 2012 season. The two teams head into Saturday's contest after playing each other to back-to-back ties in the 2015 and 2016 seasons.

Last Week:Â In Elmira's lone game of the week, the Purple and Gold dropped a 4-0 decision on the road to the Bears of SUNY Potsdam. Although Elmira produced its most shots since the season opener, the Soaring Eagles were unable to find the back of the net for a score. In goal, Rachel Grampp '18 made a career-high 18 saves, making her first EC goalie to log 18-or-more saves since 2003.

Next Game: The Elmira women will be eyeing their first win of the year this Tuesday, September 19, when the Soaring Eagles welcome the Express of Wells College to Campus Field for a 4:00 p.m. non-conference tilt. Elmira has faced Wells 11 times since the 1985 season and enters the matchup with a lopsided 10-1 advantage in the all-time series. Eight of Elmira's wins during that time came in the form of a shutout, including EC's most recent win, a 5-0 drubbing of the Express in 2008. The Purple and Gold will look to extend their nine-game winning streak against Wells.

Last Week: Elmira split a pair of road matches last week, as the Soaring Eagles suffered a heartbreaking 5-4 loss to Sage, before bouncing back with a dominant 9-0 victory over Penn College. Megan Fitzgerald '18 picked up three wins over the weekend to bring her career total to 73, good enough to move into a two-way tie for first place with former teammate, Ayaka Yoshino '16, for the program's all-time wins record. Fitzgerald sports a 10-2 combined record this year with identical 5-1 records at first singles and doubles. Emily Green '18 had a standout weekend for Elmira as well, as the senior extended her winning streak at third singles to three matches, bringing her overall record this year to 4-2. Other noteworthy performances included Katy Jewett '21 and Cheyanne Holwell '19 earning their first singles wins of the 2017 season.

Next Match: The Soaring Eagles will look to make it two wins in a row, and possibly three, this weekend when EC battles Alfred and Fredonia. Elmira hosts the Saxons of Alfred on Saturday, September 23, at the Murray Athletic Center at 12:00 p.m., before hitting the road for a non-league bout against the Blue Devils of Fredonia the following day at 1:00 p.m.

Last Week: After beginning the week with a 3-0 setback to Morrisville State on Tuesday, September 12, Elmira went an impressive 4-0 run at the Oswego State Invitational to finish the week 4-1. EC earned wins over SUNY Canton, Bard, Hilbert and Oswego State at the tournament. Leading the way for the Purple and Gold was junior outside hitter Natalie Schieder '19. In the five matches last week, Schieder tallied team highs in kills (75), digs (49), service aces (13) and double-doubles (3). For her impressive play, the Alden, New York, native was awarded EC Athlete of the Week accolades in addition to being named Tournament MVP at the Oswego State Invite. Fellow junior Taylor Kaznowski '19 also had a noteworthy week, as she finished the five-match slate with 113 assists. Kaznowski was also selected to the All-Tournament Team at the Oswego State Invite.

Next Match: EC returns to action tomorrow night when the Soaring Eagles travel to Cortland, New York, to challenge SUNYAC foe SUNY Cortland. The opening serve of the non-league bout is schedule to take place at 6:00 p.m.
