HOBOKEN, N.J. --
Senior goaltender Julie Hockenberger '18 registered a career-high 19 saves for the Elmira College field hockey team during Saturday's Empire 8 Conference contest, but it wasn't enough for the Soaring Eagles in a 7-2 loss to Stevens Institute of Technology.

Stevens' high-powered offense accumulated 45 shots, 26 which were on goal, forcing Hockenberger to stay busy in cage throughout matchup. The fourth-year keeper from Manlius, New York, doubled her previous save total from her first five appearances of the year combined in 70:00 of action against the Ducks. Not only do her 19 stops represent a new single-game high, but Saturday's bout marks the 18th time in Hockenberger's collegiate career that she's finished with double-digit saves.

Hockenberger made 14 saves in the first half alone, which limited the Ducks to just two goals on 24 shots. In the second half, however, Stevens rattled off three straight goals in the first seven-and-a-half minutes to extend their lead to 5-0.

Down by six, the Elmira offense came to life with back-to-back goals in the 50th and 61st minutes. Senior Alison Mariano '18 ended the scoreless drought with an unassisted mark from from the right side. Mariano then assisted on EC's second goal, scored by Janie Kempf '21, which cut the lead down to 6-2. Kempf's tally extended her team lead in that category to five in her debut season.

Despite the late rally, the Purple and Gold were only able to muster one more shot in the final nine-plus minutes of regulation, while Stevens' Skylar Migliaccio extended her team's lead back to five goals, 7-2, in the 64th minute.
