ELMIRA, N.Y. -- Elmira College men's soccer's challenging non-conference schedule continues this weekend with a pair of games against Ithaca College and 13th-ranked SUNY Cortland. The Soaring Eagles make the short trip up Route 13 to battle the Bombers of Ithaca on Saturday, September 9, at 1:00 p.m., before welcoming the Red Dragons of Cortland to Campus Field the following day for a 3:00 p.m. kickoff.

LIPP CONTINUES TO IMPRESS
Rookie goalkeeper Anthony Lipp '21 has played the lion's share of minutes between the posts for the Elmira men this season. He has started in two of the three contests he has appeared in, and is unbeaten on the season with a 1-0-1 record. The Mastic, New York, native turned away a season-high nine shots against the Spartans of D'Youville College, the highest single-game save total by an EC rookie since the 2013 campaign. Additionally, Lipp's 18 saves this season are tied for second-most in the Empire 8 Conference, while his .857 save percentage ranks third in the league.

SCOUTING ITHACA
Former Empire 8 affiliate Ithaca boasts a 2-1-0 record on the young season, after opening the year with a pair of non-conference wins at the Cadet Kickoff Classic and a loss to No. 13 Cortland on Wednesday, September 6. The Bombers, who reached the E8 Tournament Semifinals a season ago, are led on the attack by Jack Monnes and his team-leading five points (2g, 1a). Monnes shares the team lead in goals with Max Barish, who each scored once in wins over Wentworth Institute of Technology (2-1) and Southern Vermont College (5-0). Eric Hepler paces Ithaca with two assists, both of which were registered against Southern Vermont. Max Lichtenstein has seen the majority of minutes between the posts this season (245:13) and sports a solid 0.73 goals-against average as well as an .818 save percentage.

SCOUTING SUNY CORTLAND
The 13th-ranked Red Dragons of SUNY Cortland head into the weekend unbeaten with a 3-0-0 record, which includes a season-opening win over fourth-ranked Brandeis. All three of Cortland's wins have been decided by a single goal and all three game-winners have come from the boot of Jamaican international Migell Ormsby, a junior transfer from Thomkins Cortland Community College. Backstopping the Cortland defense has been senior netminder Connor Young, who has played all 270 minutes between the posts for the Red Dragons this season and boasts a meniscal 0.67 goals-against average. Young, a 2016 All-SUNYAC First-Team recipient, is 3-0-0 on the young season and paces the conference with 18 saves.

LOOKING AHEAD
Elmira will resume its non-league schedule on Wednesday, September 13, with a 4:00 p.m. road bout against the Tigers of RIT. The Purple and Gold are back at Campus Field on Saturday, September 16, when they host Houghton College in EC's 2017 Empire 8 Conference opener.
