Last Week: The Soaring Eagles concluded a season-long three-game road trip with Empire 8 Conference bouts against Houghton and Utica. Elmira began the week with an 86-80 victory over the Highlanders on Tuesday, January 9. The Purple and Gold were led in the contest by a fantastic performance from Justin Porrett '19. In the second half alone, Porrett tallied 19 of his team-high 23 points and was responsible for 16 of EC's final 29 points. Henry Cuffee '19 was also instrumental in the Soaring Eagles' first conference win of the season, as he scored 19 points and hauled in 11 rebounds for his eighth double-double of the year. Elmira battled Utica tough for the first 16 minutes of their league battle on Saturday, trailing by just four points with 4:09 remaining in the opening half. However, a 14-2 run by the Pioneers put the contest out of EC's reach, resulting in a 93-77 win for UC. For the second consecutive game, Porrett led the Soaring Eagles in scoring with 19 points in addition to handing out a game-high seven assists. Jesse Adelson '20 also cracked double-digit points in the bout with 16, his ninth double-digit scoring effort of the season.

Last Week: The Purple and Gold continued E8 play with road tilts against both Houghton and Utica. Elmira started its week with a 62-53 defeat against the Highlanders at the Nielsen Center in Houghton, New York. Trailing by just five, 32-27, heading into the halftime break, the Soaring Eagles looked poised to make a second-half run at Houghton, but a 19-8 third quarter that favored the Highlanders squashed any hope of an Elmira comeback. Emily Green '18 paced EC in scoring with 11 points, while Sally Hogan '19 was not far behind with nine points, in addition to a game-high 12 rebounds. The Purple and Gold then concluded the week with a 62-53 loss to Utica on Saturday afternoon. With two minutes left in the bout, Elmira was behind by just two points, 55-53, but that would be the closest that the Soaring Eagles would get, as UC made its critical free throws to clinch the conference win. Both Hogan and Lindsey Heaton '19 had all-around solid performances in the bout, as the former recorded 10 points and eight rebounds, while the latter ended the day with eight points, 10 rebounds and six assists.
