Last Week: The Soaring Eagles lost their lone game of last week, a 98-89 defeat at the hands of Empire 8 Conference foe Alfred last Tuesday at Speidel Gymnasium. Jeremy Every '20 paced Elmira in scoring with 21 points, the third 20-point game of his young career. Fellow sophomore Jesse Adelson '20 poured in a season-high 19 points, in addition to seven rebounds and four assists. Juniors Henry Cuffee '19 and Justin Porrett '19 both recorded their usual dependable performances, as the former tallied 16 points and eight boards and the latter was the only player to post a double-double with 12 points and 10 assists.

Next Game: The Elmira men continue their season-long three-game homestand on Tuesday, January 23, with an E8 bout against Nazareth. Tip-off for the league clash is slated for 6:00 p.m. at Speidel Gymnasium.

Women's Basketball (9-6, 1-5 E8)
Last Week: The Purple and Gold earned their first conference victory of the season last Tuesday by besting the Saxons of Alfred by a 76-71 final score. The victory was Elmira's best-played E8 game of the season, as the Soaring Eagles' points (76), rebounds (55), assists (20) and field-goal percentage (40.3) were all the highest totals the team has posted in a league tilt this season. Sally Hogan '19 led EC in scoring with 14 points on an impressive 6-for-8 (75.0 percent) shooting from the floor. The trio Danielle Cleary '18 (12pts-9rbs), Lindsey Heaton '19 (11pts-8rbs) and Lauren Franklin '20 (9pts-13rbs) were knocking on the door of posting double-doubles against the Saxons.

Next Game: The Soaring Eagles continue conference play on Tuesday with an 8:00 p.m. battle against Nazareth at Speidel Gymnasium. The tilt is the second of three-straight home games for Elmira.

Men's Ice Hockey (9-8-2, 4-4-2 UCHC)
Last Week: Elmira retuned to United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) atcion this past weekend with road games against both Manhattanville and King's (Pa.). The Soaring Eagles opened play with a 4-4 overtime draw to the Valiants on Friday in Rye, New York, at the Playland Ice Casino. As has been a trend this season, EC's top line of Connor Powell '20, Matthew Cuce '20 and Nick Ford '20 led the Purple and Gold in the tie. Ford paced all skaters with four points on one goal and three assists, while Powell (2a) and Cuce (2g) each had two points apiece. Rookie Ryan Blais '21 also had a solid night, as he scored his first collegiate goal and handed out an assist to finish with two points. To close out the weekend, Elmira topped the Monarchs by a 6-1 final score at the Revolution Ice Centre in Pittston, Pennsylvania. Cuce continued his fantastic scoring streak against King's, as he recorded his first career hat trick to finish finished the weekend with five combined goals. Powell and Ford also posted multi-point nights, as they both were credited with two assists. Freshman Aleksi Ojala '21 tallied his first collegiate point, goal and assist in the victory as well.

Next Game: EC begins a four-game homestand on Friday, January 26, with a clash against UCHC rival Nazareth at the Murray Athletic Center. The league tilt is slated to begin at 7:00 p.m.

Women's Ice Hockey (13-2-1, 8-0-0 UCHC)
Last Week: The No. 2/3-ranked Soaring Eagles battled No. 3/2-ranked Norwich to a 3-3 overtime draw in crucial non-conference action on Saturday at the Murray Athletic Center. The Purple and Gold were paced in the contest by Katie Granato '19 and Maddie Evangelous '19, who each recorded two points. Granato found the back of the net twice for both of her points, while Evangelous had a hand in both of Granato's goals with a pair of assists. Freshman Jess Adams '21 scored Elmira's other goal on a breakaway in the second period, the second goal of her young career. In between the pipes for EC, Kelcey Crawford '18 made 32 saves to earn the tie against the nationally-ranked Cadets.

Next Game: The Soaring Eagles close out the non-conference portion of their schedule on Tuesday, when they challenge Trinity (Conn.) at the Koeppel Community Sports Center in Hartford, Connecticut. The bout is slated to begin at 7:30 p.m.

Men's Volleyball (1-2, 0-0 UVC)
Last Week: The Purple and Gold began the 2018 campaign with a 1-2 record in their first three matches of the season over the weekend. Elmira began the trio of bouts with a 3-2 loss to Baruch on Friday. On Saturday, EC started the Golden Dome Invitational with a 3-2 setback to Rutgers-Newark, before picking up its first win of the season against Ramapo, 3-2, later on that afternoon. Matthew Buffum '18 paced EC over the weekend, as he ranked first on the team in blocks (19) and third in kills (33). Buffum recorded a single-match program record in the contest against the Scarlet Raiders, as he floored 10 blocks. The trio of Dan Symer '19 (35), Ryan McDonough '19 (34) and Jose Malave '21 (32) were also critical to Elmira's offensive success, as each member recorded at least 32 kills over the three matches. Symer and Malave also did very well on the defensive end of the court, as both recorded two double-doubles in the team's first three matches.

Next Game: The EC men begin the home portion of the 2018 schedule with four matches at the Elmira College Invitational on Friday and Saturday, January 26-27. The opening bout of the event is slated for 6:00 p.m. on Friday and will see the Soaring Eagles battle the Wolves of Keuka College at Speidel Gymnasium.
