ELMIRA, N.Y. -- On Saturday, October 13, when the Elmira College women's soccer team hosts Alfred State at 12:00 p.m., the Soaring Eagles will do their part to recognize Breast Cancer Awareness Month with their second annual Paint the Field Pink Game.
The Soaring Eagles will once again paint the lines on Campus Field pink and don special pink jerseys during Saturday's non-conference tilt against the Pioneers. In addition to raising awareness about the disease, the Purple and Gold will raise funds for the Susan G. Komen Foundation by charging a $1.00 admission to fans in attendance and collecting donations. Last fall, Elmira raised $550 for the Susan G. Komen Foundation at the Paint the Field Pink Game.
"I look forward to holding our Paint the Field Pink Game for the second year in a row to promote breast cancer awareness," said head coach
Kaitlyn Mallernee. "This type of event has great meaning to many people, my family included. I watched my grandmother soldier through the battle and overcome the fight with breast cancer. I love this event because it represents something larger than ourselves, to which I am excited to be part of. Last year we had an outstanding turnout and I hope that we will gain that same atmosphere throughout this year's Paint the Field Pink."
About the Susan G. Komen Foundation
In 1980, Nancy G. Brinker promised her dying sister, Susan, that she would do everything in her power to end breast cancer forever. In 1982, that promise became the Susan G. Komen® organization and the beginning of a global movement. What was started with $200 and a shoebox full of potential donor names has now grown into the world's largest nonprofit source of funding for the fight against breast cancer. To date, we've invested more than $2.9 billion in groundbreaking research, community health outreach, advocacy and programs in more than 60 countries. Our efforts helped reduce deaths from breast cancer by 38 percent between 1989-2014 and we won't stop until our promise is fulfilled.
