Last Week: The Soaring Eagles had a tough week of Empire 8 action with two games on the road and one at home over a five-day stretch. On Tuesday, freshman guard Mason Weir '21 went 3-for-4 from beyond the arc as the Purple and Gold were defeated by the Hawks of Hartwick College (104-81) in Oneonta, New York. Senior forward Hayden Harkins '18 netted six 3-pointers and a game-high 23 points in Thursday's 105-82 loss to Nazareth College in Rochester, New York. On Saturday, junior forward Henry Cuffee '19 scored a game-high 25 points and went 3-for-5 from 3-point range in a hard-fought 89-76 defeat against Utica College in Speidel Gymnasium. Seniors Connor Bays '18, Paul Bischoff '18 and Harkins were honored pre-game, as a part of the Class of 2018 Recognition Dayon Saturday.
Next Game: The Elmira men will play on the road for the final time in 2017-18 on Tuesday, February 13, when the Soaring Eagles travel to Rochester, New York, to face the Cardinals of St. John Fisher College at 6:00 p.m.

Last Week: The Purple and Gold went 2-1 in the three Empire 8 contests played last week. On Tuesday, junior forward Sally Hogan '19 scored 14 points after going 7-for-8 from the field in a 74-70 victory over Hartwick. Sophomore forward Lauren Franklin '20 tied her career-high in scoring with a game-high 15 points in a 60-49 loss to Nazareth on Thursday. The Soaring Eagles bounced back on Saturday as they defeated the Pioneers of Utica College 63-49 on Class of 2018 Recognition Day. Senior guards Danielle Cleary '18 and Emily Green '18 both shined against the Pioneers with 16 and 13 points, respectively. Â

Last Week: The Soaring Eagles finished the weekend with a sweep of Manhattanville College on their home ice at the Murray Athletic Center in Pine Valley, New York. Senior Sarah Hughson '18 scored the game-winning goal in the second period of Friday's contest, her fourth of the season, as the Purple and Gold won 3-2. Saturday's 6-0 victory had goals scored by six different Soaring Eagles, while senior goalie Kelcey Crawford '18 recorded her sixth shutout of the year. With the pair of wins, the No. 3/3-ranked Soaring Eagles clinched the first seed in the upcoming UCHC Tournament.
Next Game:Â The Soaring Eagles return to action on Friday, February 16, when they take on Neumann University in UCHC action at the Murray Athletic Center. The series opener is slated to begin at7:00 p.m.

Men's Volleyball (10-4, 1-0 UVC)
Last Week: The Purple and Gold have won each of their last three matches, including their first United Volleyball Conference (UVC) win over Bard College. On Wednesday, Elmira traveled to Rochester, New York, where they defeated Nazareth College for the first-time ever on the road in a five-set match. Senior Ryan McDonough '18 led the team with 15 kills and four aces on the night, which allowed the Soaring Eagles to come back from a two-to-one deficit going into the fourth set. On Sunday, the Soaring Eagles opened UVC play with a 3-0 sweep of Bard College in the first match of the Elmira College Tri-Match. Junior Dan Symer '19 and senior Matthew Buffum '18 each led the team with 8 kills apiece. Elmira finished the day with a non-conference sweep of Misericordia University that was led by freshman Jose Malave '21, who had 10 kills and four aces in the match.
Next Game:Â The Soaring Eagles will travel to Annandale-on-Hudson, New York, for a UVC Tri-Match at Bard College. Elmira will begin the weekend with a match against No. 14 SUNY New Paltz on Saturday, February 17, at 3:30 p.m.
