Last Week: The Soaring Eagles fell to an 0-5 record after a road trip down south to open the 2018 season. Last Tuesday, Elmira dropped both games in a doubleheader against Huntingdon College in Montgomery, Alabama. On Thursday, EC was defeated by the Falcons of Pfeiffer University, 5-3, in Misenheimer, North Carolina. Elmira concluded the road trip on Friday with a 7-1 loss to Guilford College in Greensboro, North Carolina. Senior Dennis Rudolph '18 led EC's qualified hitters with a batting average of .333 through these four outings with four hits and three runs throughout the week. Rudolph has reached base in each of the five games played at this point in the season. Sophomore Sam Plaugher '20 posted the second-best offensive performance of the week with a batting average of .300, as two of his three hits went for extra bases. Plaugher tallied a career-best two RBIs in the second matchup against Huntingdon, while senior Cameron Heggie '18 led the team with three RBIs for the week. Junior pitcher Andy Reed '19 posted a strong start in a no-decision against the Falcons, as he left the mound after allowing one run in 7.0 innings with three strikeouts.
Next Game:Â EC has a two-week break from action as it prepares to travel to York, Pennsylvania, to take on the York College Spartans on Saturday, March 10 in a doubleheader. The first of the two games is set to begin at 1:00 p.m. at Jaquet Field. The Soaring Eagles will then travel to Stevenson, Maryland, the following day for back-to-back matchups against Frostburg State University and Stevenson University.

Men's Ice Hockey (15-9-3, 8-5-3 UCHC)
Last Week:Â The Soaring Eagles traveled to Rye, New York, as the fifth seed in the UCHC tournament and defeated No. 4 Manhattanville, 4-3, in a quarterfinal bout at the Playland Ice Casino on Wednesday. This Elmira victory was guided by one goal from Nick Ford '20, two from Connor Powell '20, and the game-winner from Chris Moses '19 around the mid-point of the third period. Starting goaltender Gennaro Anzevino '21 finished the game with 31 saves, including a game-high 14 in the third period to secure the win. The Purple and Gold traveled to Reisterstown, Maryland, for a matchup against Stevenson University in the UCHC semifinals on Saturday. The same three skaters scored goals for Elmira in a 5-3 win over the Mustangs, led by Ford with a career-high-tying five points (2g-3a). Anzevino had another strong day in net with 43 saves for the Soaring Eagles.
Next Game:Â The fifth-seeded Soaring Eagles will travel to Utica, New York, to battle the No. 1 seed, Utica College, for the inaugural UCHC Tournament Championship on Saturday, March 3. This matchup will take place in the Adirondack Bank Center at the Utica Memorial Auditorium with the opening puck-drop set for 7:00 p.m.

Men's Volleyball (13-5, 3-0 UVC)
Last Week:Â The Soaring Eagles traveled to Hiram, Ohio, for the Hiram College Invitational on Saturday. In the first match of the day, No. 13 Elmira fell to No. 12 Mount Saint Joseph University, 3-1. After the Lions took the first two sets by 25-23 and 25-16 final scores, EC put on a comeback attempt and took the third set by a score of 25-14. The match was concluded with a hard-fought 26-24 fourth set, giving Elmira its first loss in its last six matches. The Soaring Eagles finished the weekend with a split after a 3-2 win over the Hiram Terriers in the second match of the day. EC dropped the first two sets before winning three straight in a comeback victory after close scores in both the fourth (26-24) and fifth sets (16-14). Jose Malave '21 led the team in the second match with a double-double (14k-11d). Solid outings also came from Dan Symer '19 (11k-8d) and Ryan McDonough '18 (10k-7d). At seven blocks a piece, both Matt Buffum '18 and Landon Miller '20 carried the team defensively.
Next Game:Â The Soaring Eagles continue non-conference play at the Nazareth College Invitational on Saturday, March 3. Elmira will challenge D'Youville College at 12:00 p.m., before taking on Medaille College at 2:00 p.m. at the Kidera Gymnasium.
