Last Week: The Soaring Eagles played just once last week, suffering a hard-fought 86-85 defeat at the hands of The Sage Colleges in Empire 8 Conference action at the Murray Athletic Center on Saturday. Henry Cuffee '19 led the way for the Purple and Gold, as he scored a game-high 22 points to go along with four assists and three steals. Sophomore guards Jeremy Every '20 and Jesse Adelson '20 also had solid afternoons, as they scored 18 and 17 points, respectively. Justin Porrett '19 filled up the stat sheet with seven points, seven rebounds and eight assists, while committing zero turnovers in 38 minutes of play. Â Â Â

Next Game: The EC men return to the court on Tuesday, February 6, when they head to Oneonta, New York, to challenge Hartwick College. The E8 contest, which will be played at the Hawks' Lambros Arena, is slated to begin at 6:00 p.m.

Women's Basketball (11-8, 3-7 E8)
Last Week: The Purple and Gold's lone tilt of the week saw Elmira fall to Sage by a 63-54 final score at the Murray Athletic Center on Saturday. Trailing by one point, 41-40, heading into the fourth quarter, the Soaring Eagles looked primed to pull off a comeback on their home court. However, this would not be the case, as the Gators shot 6-for-7 from the floor in the final 4:35 of the game to halt EC's hopes of a victory. Rachel Vespucci '19 led the way for the Soaring Eagles with a team-high 15 points to go along with eight rebounds. Lindsey Heaton '19 almost recorded a double-double with 11 points, nine rebounds and seven assists.
Next Game: The Soaring Eagles continue E8 play with a road Empire 8 bout against Hartwick on Tuesday, February 6. The 8:00 p.m. contest will be played at the Lambros Arena in Oneonta, New York.

Men's Ice Hockey (12-8-3, 7-4-3 UCHC)
Last Week: Elmira went 1-0-1 in a pair of crucial United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) games played last weekend against Neumann and Stevenson at the Murray Athletic Center. EC began the weekend with a 4-1 triumph over Neumann. It was an all-around team effort in the victory, as eight Soaring Eagles tallied at least one point. Chris Moses '19 and Harry Kramer '20 led the group with two points on one goal and one assist apiece. Freshman goalie Jake Sabourin '21 needed just 22 saves to extend his unbeaten streak to five games (4-0-1). On Saturday, the Purple and Gold battled UCHC-leading Stevenson to a 2-2 overtime draw. Five different EC skaters tallied points in the contest, as Connor Powell '20 and Spencer MacLean '20 scored the two goals, while Matthew Cuce '20, Calvin Hughson '20 and Anthony Parrucci '20 all earned an assist.

Next Game: The EC men will have 13 days off before they return to the ice on Friday, February 16, to challenge Chatham in UCHC play at 7:00 p.m. at the Frozen Pond Arena in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Women's Ice Hockey (17-2-2, 11-0-1 UCHC)
Last Week: The Soaring Eagles walked away with a tie and an overtime victory in their home-and-series against William Smith on Saturday and Sunday. Saturday's tilt, which was played at the Murray Athletic Center, saw the two teams skate to a 2-2 overtime draw. The duo of Katie Granato '19 and Meghan Fonfara '18 led the way for Elmira, as both scored a goal and they earned an assist on the other's tally. On Sunday, the Soaring Eagles and Herons again flew through regulation tied, this time at 1-all. This OT period was different, however, as it took Shannon Strawinski '19 just 31 seconds to break the deadlock and give Elmira the 2-1 win. Kelcey Crawford '18 made 56 saves across both tilts, 33 of which came Sunday, tied for the second-most she has stopped this season.

Next Game: The Soaring Eagles begin a season-long four-game homestand on Friday, February 9, when they welcome Manhattanville to the Murray Athletic Center. The opening puck drop for the conference clash is slated for 7:00 p.m.Â

Men's Volleyball (7-4, 0-0 UVC)
Last Week: The Purple and Gold went 2-2 at the Mount St. Joseph tri-match and 2018 Power Weekend, hosted by Wittenberg University, over the weekend. EC opened its busy slate with a 3-2 upset victory over No. 5-ranked Dominican (Ill.). Junior setter Jeremy Best '19 was fantastic in the victory, as he amassed a career-high 62 assists, which is tied for the third-most in a single match in program history. In the nightcap against the host Lions of No. 12-ranked Mount St. Joseph, Elmira was unable to defeat its nationally-ranked competitor of the day, as the Lions won in straight sets. To open play on Saturday, senior middle blocker Matthew Buffum '18 led EC to a 3-0 victory over Penn State Altoona with match-highs in kills (14) and hitting percentage (.480). Similar to Friday's outcomes, Elmira was unable to carry its momentum into the nightcap, as Marian bested the Purple and Gold in straight sets to close out EC's trip to Ohio.
