Last Week: The Elmira women concluded an incredible 2017-18 season with a second-place showing at the 2018 NCAA Division III Women's Ice Hockey Championship over the weekend. The Soaring Eagles began play on Friday with an incredible 3-2 comeback victory in double overtime versus four-time defending national champion Plattsburgh State. With EC trailing 2-0 heading into the third period, the Purple and Gold rallied with two straight goals from Shannon Strawinski '19. In the championship game on Saturday, Elmira and Norwich battled to a 1-1 tie with late in the third period, with EC's tally coming from Sarah Hughson '18 on a short-handed score. At the 2:14 mark, a roughing call on Strawinski gave the Cadets a late power-play opportunity. Men's Lacrosse (0-3, 0-0 E8)
Last Week: Despite a strong showing in the faceoff circle and a solid defensive performance, the Soaring Eagles suffered a 9-2 defeat to non-conference foe SUNY Oneonta on Saturday afternoon. Sophomore Kevin DiMagno '20 was fantastic at the X, as he won a career-best 10 faceoffs to lift Elmira to a 10-to-5 advantage over the Red Dragons in that category. EC had not topped a team in the faceoff circle since it bested Houghton, 14-to-8, in a 16-5 victory over the Highlanders on March 29, 2017. The EC men also held Oneonta to just nine goals, which marked the first time that Elmira has held an opponent to less than 10 goals since the aforementioned win over Houghton last year. Junior Cam Brickey '19 continued his strong start to 2018 with seven ground balls and two caused turnovers. Kyra McDonald '18 and Mae Dinh '19 accounted for both of Elmira's goals in the contest. McDonald has scored in three of EC's four games this season and is second in the team with five on the year, while Dinh found the back of the net for the third time as a junior. Dinh's score came off an impressive individual effort where she stole the ball from the Lycoming goal and picked it up and scored within a couple of seconds. The caused turnover from that play was her team-leading seventh of the season.
