ELMIRA, N.Y. -- The Elmira College baseball team will play in front of a home crowd for the first time this season on  Sunday and Monday, March 25-26, against Empire 8 Conference rival St. John Fisher College. Sunday's doubleheader at historic Dunn Field begins at 1:00 p.m.

SERIES CHANGES
This weekend's series schedule at Dunn Field has been altered due to concerns about the forecasted weather on Saturday afternoon. The doubleheader, originally scheduled for Saturday, has been shifted to Sunday and will still begin at 1:00 p.m. The series finale will then be held at Dunn Field on Monday, March 26, with first pitch at 4:30 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT
Due to a handful of postponements, it had been nearly two weeks since the Soaring Eagles last played on March 11. That day, Frostburg State beat EC in walk-off fashion, 5-4, before Stevenson wrapped up the non-traditional doubleheader sweep with an 11-5 victory in the nightcap. Junior hurler Nick Cottone '19 took the no-decision against the Bobcats, as he tossed 7.2 innings with five strikeouts. In the late game against the Mustangs, freshman infielder Mark Ryan '21 finished 2-for-4 with a triple, two RBIs and one run scored.

SLUGGING SAMMY
Second-year infielder Sam Plaugher '20 is off to a strong start in 2018. After seeing limited at-bats as a rookie, he's nearly surpassed those numbers in just nine games as a sophomore. In nine appearances, including seven starts, Plaugher is hitting .250 with half of his hits going for extra bases. He's also drawn a team-high-tying six walks, which has raised his on-base percentage to .400. When on the base paths, the speedy sophomore is always a threat to steal. He's swiped three bags already this year without being caught.

LITTLE NICKY
In his first two seasons with the Purple and Gold, Nick Cottone '19 was used almost exclusively out of the bullpen. However, the 6-foot-5-inch righty has started in each of his last two appearances. He lasted 5.0 innings against Guilford on February 23 and posted a career-high 7.2 innings of work against Frostburg State on March 11. With a 2.63 ERA heading into the weekend series with St. John Fisher, Cottone leads all qualified Soaring Eagles and it looks like he's settling into his new role nicely.

SCOUTING FISHER
The Cardinals have opened 2018 with an even 6-6 record, with three of those losses coming against ranked opponents. SJFC has won its last two games on March 17 vs. Penn State Harrisburg (7-4) and on March 18 vs. Kean (6-2), the latter of which required 11 innings to complete. As a team, St. John Fisher ranks seventh in the nation in home runs per game (0.92), led by Stephen Edgett, Ryan Simmons, and Scott Eisenmenger with three apiece. Eisenmenger, the reigning E8 Player of the Year, has driven in a team-best 11 runs on 13 hits.

LOOKING AHEAD
EC will continue E8 play against Stevens Institute of Technology with a road trip to Hoboken, New Jersey, on Wednesday, March 28. First pitch for the conference matchup against the Ducks will begin at 2:00 p.m.
