ELMIRA, N.Y. -- The Elmira College women's tennis team is set for a pair of spring matches, the first of which will pit the Soaring Eagles against the Golden Eagles of the College at Brockport. The two feathered foes will take flight on Saturday, March 24, at 11:30 a.m. at the Murray Athletic Center.

NON-TRADITIONAL SEASON
Today's contest marks the first of two bouts for the Soaring Eagles that will take place during the team's non-traditional season. The Soaring Eagles have played spring matches in four of the last five campaigns and have historically done well in those tilts, as they went a combined 4-2 in that span. Last season, instead of playing dual matches, Elmira hosted the Soaring Eagle Spring Invitational, where Megan Fitzgerald '18 went a perfect 6-0 at second singles and first doubles.

SERIES HISTORY

Today's contest marks the 21st all-time meeting between Elmira and Brockport. The Golden Eagles own a 12-8 advantage over their aerial foes after winning the three most recent meetings in the series. Brockport won the first match of 2017-18 by a 6-3 final score on September 3 on its home courts. EC last tasted victory against the Golden Eagles in the 2009 campaign, when the Soaring Eagles secured a tight 5-4 victory on September 29 in Brockport, New York.

SCOUTING BROCKPORT

The Golden Eagles, who concluded their traditional season with a 5-3 loss to Plattsburgh State in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Tournament consolation match, posted a 3-13 overall record in the fall. Of those three wins, two came against Empire 8 Conference opposition, as Brockport topped both Elmira (6-3) and Alfred (5-4). However, both of those triumphs came in home matches, as the Golden Flyers finished with a 1-5 record on the road.  Autumne Venturino and Jennifer Kiely ended the year as the team's most successful players. Venturino won a team-high-tying nine times, playing primarily at No. 3 singles and No. 2 doubles. Kiely also won nine matches in her first collegiate season.

UP NEXT
The Soaring Eagles will play one more match during the non-traditional portion of the schedule on Tuesday, March 27, versus SUNY Oneonta. The non-league bout, which is scheduled for a 4:00 p.m. start, will take place at the Murray Athletic Center.
