Jacob Mattice '21 made double-digit saves for the third game in a row, and fellow rookie
Jake Zlinsky '21 netted his first-ever goal, as the Elmira College men's lacrosse team dropped a 14-2 decision to Kean University on Wednesday night.
Mattice, a freshman from Canton, New York, recorded 14 saves in a little over 50 minutes of action, increasing his Empire 8 Conference-leading saves-per-game average to 13.50. Nine of his stops came in the second quarter alone, while he limited the Cougars to just one goal in the third quarter.
Zlinsky scored Elmira's first goal of the contest at 8:46 in the second quarter. The Soaring Eagles needed just seven seconds to score their second goal, as
Kevin DiMagno '20 won the ensuing faceoff and dished the ball off to
Seth Amstein '19, who buried his first goal of the season past Kean goalie Thomas Francy. Despite the back-to-back goals, EC was held scoreless for the remainder of the contest.
In addition to his assist, DiMagno won five faceoffs and collected four ground balls.
Cam Brickey '19 and
Joe Smith '21 each scooped up three ground balls and caused one turnover.
