Men's Ice Hockey (15-10-3, 8-5-3 UCHC)
Last Week: The Elmira men's 2017-18 campaign came to a close in the United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) Tournament title game on Saturday, March 3. The fifth-seeded Soaring Eagles fell to top-seeded Utica College by an 8-3 final score at the Adirondack Bank Center in Utica, New York. The No. 10/9-ranked Pioneers capitalized on EC's mistakes early, taking a 3-0 lead in the first period on three power-play goals. Two more tallies in the first six minutes of the second stanza put the contest out of Elmira's reach. Anthony Parrucci '20, Nick Ford '20 and Patrick Schmelzinger '20 all scored goals for the Soaring Eagles, while Ford, Connor Powell '20, Ryan Blais '21, Spencer Carter '20 and Adam Eby '21 all dished out at least one assist. In goal for Elmira, freshman Gennaro Anzevino '21 made 29 saves to close out his rookie season.

Women's Ice Hockey (23-2-2, 15-0-1 UCHC)
Last Week: The No. 1-seeded Soaring Eagles were in prime form over the weekend, as they flew through the UCHC Tournament to win the conference's first-ever championship. EC opened postseason play with a 7-1 victory over the No. 4 seed, Utica, at the Murray Athletic Center on Saturday. In the contest, nine different Elmira skaters logged at least one point, led by Katie Granato '19 (2g-1a), Maddie Evangelous '19 (3a) and Meghan Fonfara '18 (1g-2a) with three points apiece. In the title game against the third-seeded Mustangs of Stevenson on Sunday afternoon, Elmira cruised to a 5-0 triumph. The UCHC Player of the Year, Sarah Hughson '18, was the star of the night, as she tallied three goals and one assist on her way to Tournament MVP honors. In total, Hughson paced the team with six points (4g-2a) on the weekend to earn EC Athlete of the Week honors. Joining Hughson on the All-Tournament Team was EC's Fonfara, Granato, Rachel Grampp '18, Kiana Melvin '20 and Kelcey Crawford '18.

Next Game: The No. 3/3-ranked EC women are right back at it on Saturday, March 10, at the Murray Athletic Center, where the Soaring Eagles will host a 2018 Division III Women's Ice Hockey Championships first-round bout against No. 5/5 Adrian College. Last Week: The Soaring Eagles began the 2018 campaign with an 18-2 setback to Keuka College on Saturday in Keuka Park, New York. The Purple and Gold were in contention at the start of the second quarter, trailing by just three goals, 5-2, 3:43 into the period. From that point, however, the Wolves held EC scoreless for the remainder of the bout. Seniors Jacob Magnoli '18 and Nevin Olney '18 netted Elmira's two goals, both of which came on man-up opportunities. Junior Cam Brickey '19 posted a game-high four caused turnovers and a team-high five ground balls. In net, rookies Jacob Mattice '21 and Richie Cameron '21 made their first collegiate appearances, as both played one half.

Last Week: The Soaring Eagles suffered a 22-11 setback to the Hawks of SUNY New Paltz on Saturday at the Greater Binghamton Sports Complex in Binghamton, New York. New Paltz stormed ahead 9-1 after the first 11:30 minutes. Elmira started to rally before the end of the half, cutting the deficit to six, 11-5, heading into the break. Unfortunately, EC was unable to overcome the early hole, as Elmira was resigned to take the double-digit loss. Hayley Baker '19 paced the Soaring Eagles with six points (4g-2a), one shy of her career high. Kyra McDonald '18 and Danielle Goddard '20 finished next for Elmira with two goals and one assist apiece. For Goddard, it was the first three points of her career. Freshman Kacie Pierce '21 made nine saves in her collegiate debut.

Last Week: The Purple and Gold fell to Oswego State, 7-2, in non-conference action on Saturday at the Murray Athletic Center. Patrick Tracey '18 won twice at the match, winning at both No. 1 singles and doubles. Alongside teammate Stephen Gervase '20, the tandem earned their first victory of the young season with an 8-1 triumph over the Lakers' Nick Retzkin and Dillon McDonald. Tracey followed that performance up with a methodical 6-3, 6-1 win over Retzkin in singles action. The Bardonia, New York, native overcame a 0-2 deficit in the opening set to earn the 51st total win of his career, the third-most in program history. In recognition of his play, Tracey was named the Empire 8 Conference Player of the Week.

Next Game: The Soaring Eagles will take a 17-day hiatus from play before they hit the road for a 4:00 p.m. bout against the Pennsylvania College of Technology on Friday, March 30, in Williamsport, New York. The tilt will serve as EC's first away from the Southern Tier this season.

Men's Volleyball (15-5, 3-0 UVC)
Last Week: The No. 15-ranked EC men won both of their matches at the Nazareth College Invitational on Saturday in Rochester, New York. Elmira began the event with a 3-1 victory over D'Youville College. Ryan McDonough '19 fueled the Soaring Eagles offense, as he tallied a match-high 19 kills in just four sets. Ryan Branigan '19 anchored the EC defense with a season-high 18 digs against the Spartans. In the nightcap, Elmira and Medaille College played a tightly-contested affair, swapping sets for the duration of the match. The Purple and Gold secured the five-set win with a hard-fought 15-13 victory in the fifth. Matthew Buffum '18 soared in the second match of the day, as he paced all players with a season-high 18 kills to go along with a .457 hitting percentage. The fourth-year middle blocker had such a strong performance at the event, he garnered both EC Athlete of the Week and E8 Player of the Week accolades.

Next Game: Elmira's schedule does not get any easier this week, as it heads to a United Volleyball Conference (UVC) tri-match, hosted by New York University, and will play the likes of No. 9 NYU and the No. 3 Stevens Institute of Technology. The Soaring Eagles will battle the Violets on Saturday, March 10, at 4:00 p.m., before taking flight with the Ducks the following morning at 11:00 a.m.
