Last Week: The Soaring Eagles were busy last week, as they played four times. Elmira went 1-3 in those bouts, splitting a weekday doubleheader against Stevens Institute of Technology on Thursday, April 5, before dropping back-to-back games to Ithaca College on Saturday and Sunday. The highlight of the week came EC's 7-5 triumph over the Ducks in the second game of the twin bill. Trailing 5-3 heading into the bottom of the seventh inning, Elmira scored four runs in the frame to take a 7-5 lead, an advantage that remained for the rest of the game. The Soaring Eagles orchestrated their rally by playing small ball, as they loaded the bases with a pair of singles, a walk and a hit by pitch. Joey Florio '20, who came into the game as a substitution at third base, belted the game-winning double down the right-field line to drive home two. Left-handed pitcher Andy Reed '19 came in as a reliever and allowed two earned wins with two strikeouts in 7.0 innings of work to earn the victory. For the week, Tommy Fogarty '20 was stellar, as he paced the team in batting average (.385), hits (5) and RBIs (3).

Next Game: EC will have five days rest before returning home to historic Dunn Field for a non-conference bout against the Hawks of Hilbert College. The two feathered foes are scheduled to take flight at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, April 13.

Last Week: At the 2018 National Cheerleaders Association (NCA) College Nationals, Elmira again made its home fans proud by placing in the top four for the fifth consecutive season. Following an impressive performance in the prelims on Friday, which earned the Soaring Eagles the third spot heading into the finals with a score of 93.90, EC tallied a final score of 91.42 to take fourth in the talented field. The Soaring Eagles started their routine nearly perfect, but a few mishaps in the tougher section of the performance resulted in Elmira's final result.

Men's Golf
Last Week: For the first time in over six months, the EC men's golf team hit the links for competitive action. Elmira took part in the one-day Dickinson Spring Invitational on Tuesday, April 3, in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. The Soaring Eagles finished eighth at the event with a team score of 359 (+79), their fifth-lowest score of the 2017-18 campaign. Freshman Matt McGaugh '21 led the way for Elmira, with a score of 83 (+13), which placed in a tie for 27th on the final leaderboard. Junior Charl Pretorius '19 finished next for EC after carding an 87 (+17) to place in a tie for 34th. Nicholas Neary '19 (92, +22), Darien Perez '21 (97, +27) and Sean Shepardson (97, +27) rounded out Elmira's five participants. Perez's round was the first for the rookie Soaring Eagle.

Men's Lacrosse (0-7, 0-3 E8)
Last Week: The EC men could not overcome a strong defensive performance by the Golden Flyers of Nazareth College in Empire 8 action on Saturday, April 7, at nearby Notre Dame High School. Fa whopping 37 shots on goal, rookie goalkeeper Jacob Mattice '21held strong and made a season-high 22 saves against the defending E8 Tournament champions. David Keisler '20 scored EC's goal, his second consecutive game with a tally, off of a tremendous pass from Kevin DiMagno '20. DiMagno has had a fantastic start to his sophomore campaign, as he has tallied a point in every bout that he has played and with 10 ground balls against Naz, he climbed to third in the conference in ground balls per game (7.67).

Next Game: Elmira heads to Houghton, New York, this weekend for a showdown against the Highlanders of Houghton College on Saturday, April 14. The conference tilt is slated to start at 1:00 p.m. at Burke Field.

Last Week: The Soaring Eagles split its two games this past week, as they earned a 15-9 victory over Cazenovia College on Tuesday, before they dropped an E8 bout to Nazareth on Saturday. Senior Rachel Grampp '18 stole the show for Elmira against the Wildcats, as she tallied single-game career highs in both points (6) and goals (5). Grampp's scoring was critical to EC picking up its second win of the year, as her two goals to end the game helped squash a Cazenovia comeback. Fellow senior Kyra McDonald '18 finished next for the Purple and Gold with five points (4g-1a), while Danielle Goddard '20 (3g) and Sarah Hughson '18 (1g-1a) rounded out EC's multi-point scorers. In the second tilt against the Golden Flyers on Saturday, 13 first-half goals by Naz was more than enough for the home team to secure the 19-2 win. For the fifth consecutive game, Grampp found the back of the net against Nazareth to go down as one of EC's two goal scorers. Senior defender Kiersta Pino '18 also scored for Elmira, the second of her career.

Men's Tennis (1-3, 1-0 E8)
Last Week: EC men's tennis won its lone match this past week, defeating The Sage Colleges 9-0 on Saturday, April 7. The Soaring Eagles won 24 of the 29 points in doubles action by posting 8-1, 8-1 and 8-3 victories. In No. 1 and 2 singles, Patrick Tracey '18 and Yaniv Kogan '18 went 6-0, 6-0 and 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 and 2 singles, respectively. Freshman Zackarie Stedge '21 ended the day as a double-winner, taking No. 5 singles by a perfect 6-0, 6-0 final score. Fellow rookies Ravi Chauma '21 and Frank Endieveri III '21 also picked up wins at the contest, as the former won at No. 6 singles by a score of 6-2, 6-1 and the latter combined with Stedge to win at No. 3 doubles, 8-3.

Men's Volleyball (20-11, 5-4 UVC)
Last Week: The Elmira men went 1-2 to close out the 2018 regular season. EC dropped grueling five-set bouts to both St. John Fisher College and SUNY Poly in the first two matches of the weekend. Elmira did not let these setbacks affect them in the regular-season finale against Wilson College on Saturday, as they secured a 3-1 triumph over the Phoenix at the SUNY Poly Invitational. Matthew Buffum '18 had a solid showing in the three matches, as he finished the weekend with the team lead in kills (34), blocks (12) and hitting percentage (.538). In recognition of his play, the Chesterfield, Missouri, native was named both the United Volleyball Conference (UVC) and E8 Player of the Week for the third time this season. Setter Jeremy Best '19 was also stellar to close out the regular season, as he posted 127 assists, eight blocks and eight kills in the three contests.

Next Game: Fifth-seeded Elmira will battle fourth-seeded No. 11 New York University in the quarterfinal round of the UVC Tournament on Friday, April 13, at 5:00 p.m. The tournament will be hosted by the top-seeded Ducks of Stevens on the campus of Hunter College in New York City.Â
