BROCKPORT, N.Y. -- The Golden Eagles of Brockport claimed an 8-1 victory over the Elmira College women's tennis team this afternoon in a non-league matchup. It was the first win of the season for Brockport, while the Soaring Eagles remain in search of their first victory of the year.
Brockport opened today's contest with wins in all three doubles matches. The closest match took place at the top spot, as Elmira's
Katy Jewett '21 and
Cassie Brown '22 fell by an 8-4 score.
In singles action, the Golden Eagles picked up straight-set wins at the No. 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 spots. Elmira's lone victory of the day took place at the No. 6 position, as Jewett rolled to a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Brockport's Phoebe Morse. Jewett remained perfect in singles action on the year at 2-0 with back-to-back wins, following last week's triumph over St. John Fisher.
Sarah Hill' 19 played in two very tightly-contested sets in her No. 1 singles match against Autumne Venturino. Hill pushed Venturino to the brink in each of the two sets, but her counterpart from Brockport would eventually come out on top by a pair of breaks, 6-4, 6-4.
