LA PLUME, Pa. -- The Elmira College field hockey team made a late run in the second half, but was unable to overcome a two-goal deficit and lost on Wednesday night, 2-1, against Keystone College in non-league action.
The Giants led by one at the halftime break, but were able to double their lead a mere 48 seconds into the second half. Although Keystone's defense limited the Soaring Eagles to no shots through the first 47-plus minutes, the Giants would have to contend with a tough EC squad in the latter moments of the second half, as the Soaring Eagles looked to mount a comeback.
Sophomore forward
Janie Kempf '21 tallied her first goal of the season in the 54th minute, just 1:01 after head coach
Lauren Silva called for a timeout to prep Elmira for a strong finish. Assisting on the play was fellow sophomore
Kelsie Aloi '21, her first assist of the year. After the goal, the Soaring Eagles fired four more shots on target, but Keystone keeper Megan Novak preserved the lead with saves on each attempt. EC's best chance to bury an equalizer came in the 61st minute on back-to-back shots from Kempf and
Matilda Kennedy-Butler '19 in a span of 12 seconds.
Junior goalkeeper
Tina O'Donnell '20 made six saves while surrendering just two goals in 70:00 minutes of playing time between the posts.
