ALFRED, N.Y. -- Despite a solid defensive effort by the Soaring Eagles, the Elmira College women's soccer team was unable to breakthrough for a score, as Alfred University claimed a 2-0 victory on Wednesday night at Yunevich Stadium.

The Saxons held a 26-2 lead in shots, as well as a 16-0 advantage in shots on goal. Additionally, Alfred owned a 7-1 lead in corner-kick opportunities. EC's starting netminder, Gabe Carmona '19, finished with 11 saves in 58:15 of action. Meghan Ray '19 made a relief appearance and produced three saves in 31:45.

Alfred put pressure on the Elmira back line with a barrage of scoring opportunities by outshooting EC 8-1 in the first 21 minutes. Carmona made four saves on those eight attempts, with Elmira defense forcing the other four to miss the target. Carmona concluded the first half with eight stops.

However, Alfred's ninth attempt of the contest would break the stalemate, as Karah Landries put the Saxons on top 1-0 with the game's first goal in the 29th minute. This would be the lone strike of the opening half, as Elmira entered halftime with a 1-0 deficit.

In the second half, Elmira's offense was kept in check, while the Saxon attack was able to muster 14 shots, five of which made their way on target. Amanda Guariglia doubled the Alfred lead with a tally in the 66th minute, which rounded out tonight's scoring as the Saxons claimed their seventh win of the season and remained unbeaten in Empire 8 play at 2-0-0.
