PINE VALLEY, N.Y. -- The Elmira College women's tennis team came up short in its home-opening contest this evening, as the Blue Devils of Fredonia marched away with a 9-0 victory at the Murray Athletic Center.

Fredonia swept the doubles portion of today's contest, winning all but two games in the process. Singles action proved to be much of the same, as the Blue Devils earned straight-set victories in five matches, with another singles win coming in the form of an Elmira forfeit.

Brandi Meeder '22 and Marta Marta Kliszcz '20 played in the most competitive matches of the day, as they produced quality scores at the No. 4 and No. 5 positions, respectively.

Meeder, a freshman from Seneca Falls, New York, was unable to capture a game in opening set, falling 6-0, before pushing her opponent to the brink in the second stanza. Meeder matched Fredonia's Taylor Marelli hold-for-hold until a late break of service helped Marelli overcome a fiery comeback effort by Meeder, as the Blue Devil clinched the match 6-0, 6-4.

Kliszcz continued to show improvement in her first full season with the Purple and Gold, after seeing action in exhibition matches during the spring portion of EC's 2017-18 season. The junior was in the hunt in both sets, but was unable to break through, as she fell in straight sets 6-2, 6-3.
