Women's Volleyball Routs SUNY Delhi, 3-0

ELMIRA, N.Y. -- The Elmira College Women's Volleyball team extended its winning streak to five consecutive matches on Wednesday evening with a straight-sets sweep over non-conference foe SUNY Delhi inside Speidel Gymnasium.

The Purple and Gold (11-12) controlled the match from the very first serve, as they dominated at the net and the service line. EC ended the match with 36 kills, compared to 25 from SUNY Delhi (8-8). The Soaring Eagles registered 12 service aces to keep the Broncos at bay, while EC's serve receive was stellar, not giving up a single ace.

Lydia Milligan '21, Lauren Smith '21, and Savannah Terry '21 led the way offensively for the Purple and Gold with nine, eight, and six kills, respectively. Terry was EC's main threat at the service line with a match-best six aces. Kassi Hastings '21 orchestrated the Soaring Eagles' attack to the tune of 32 assists.

The opening frame was never in doubt for the Purple and Gold, as their offense was firing on all cylinders with a match-best .320 attack percentage. Elmira used a 10-0 run behind the serving of Terry to open a 12-3 lead over the Broncos. It was smooth sailing from there as Smith eventually brought the set to a close with a kill at 25-16.

Elmira followed a similar script in the second set, as the Soaring Eagles opened up an early lead that was pushed to 18-10 following a 5-0 run. The Broncos pulled back within four at 18-14, but Amelia Martin '23 reasserted EC's lead with an ace and a kill. The Purple and Gold held their edge from there to take the set, 25-18.

The Soaring Eagles dominated the Broncos in the final frame, eventually opening up a 21-9 lead following an ace from Martin and a kill from sophomore Kelsey Lofvenborg '22. EC cruised from there, sealing the set 25-16, and the match 3-0.
