Cornell Nets First Career Goal in Setback to Golden Eagles

BROCKPORT, N.Y. -- The Elmira College women's soccer team suffered an 11-1 setback on the road to The College at Brockport on a cold, wet and dreary Tuesday afternoon. It marked the fifth consecutive win of the season for the Golden Eagles (11-5-1), which is also 7-1 in its last eight games and sit in second place in the ultra-competitive State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC), while the Soaring Eagles (2-12-0) concluded the non-conference portion of their 2019 schedule.

Brockport set the tone early in today's game, as Mara Zimmerman tallied the first goal just 1:46 into regulation. Zimmerman's goal was one of nine first-half goals for the Golden Eagles.

Elmira competed at a much higher level in the second half, as Brockport outscored EC by a slim, 2-1, margin. EC's lone goal of the afternoon came from the boot of second-year midfielder Adrianna Cornell '22, who connected on a direct free kick from 24 yards. Cornell went overtop the Brockport wall and knuckled the ball into the upper left corner for the goal.

EC deployed two goalkeepers in today's contest in Ally Knorr-Anderson '23 and Cassidy Buchman '22. Anderson got the start and was credited with one save in 10:31 of work, before Buchman subbed in early in the first half and eventually finished with five saves in 79:29 of action between the sticks.
