SELINSGROVE, PA -- The Elmira College women's lacrosse team was unable to overcome an early barrage from Susquehanna University on Thursday afternoon, as the Soaring Eagles fell by a final score of 16-4 in a non-conference bout.
The Purple and Gold were unable to contain the River Hawks' high-powered attack, despite receiving a combined 25 saves from
Krystyna Lilland '21 and
Kacie Pierce '21. Susquehanna was paced by Steph Dowling, who finished with four points (3g-1a).
The Soaring Eagles had four different players find the back of the net as
Mikayla Carfello '22,
Stephanie Martin '22,
Amanda Zenstein '22 and
Ronnie Callahan '21 all struck paydirt as EC fought back against the River Hawks. In her second-career game, Callahan finished with her first multi-point performance, adding an assist on Carfello's tally.
Susquehanna came flying out of the gate with a 7-0 run over the first nine minutes of the contest to seize an early lead. EC scored the next two however, as Carfello halted the run with 16:50 on the clock and Martin buried a free position chance eight minutes later. Elmira's defense kept the River Hawks off the board for nearly 12 minutes as the first half continued to wind down, but Susquehanna used another 7-0 barrage that carried into the second half to regain control of the contest.
Callahan and Zenstein potted their goals off of free position chances in the second half, but the damage was already done following the River Hawks' early outburst.
