Location: Pioneer Stadium – Alfred, N.Y.

ALFRED, N.Y. -- The Elmira College men's lacrosse team was unable to find the goals it needed to upend Alfred State College in non-conference action on Wednesday evening, as the Pioneers picked up a 10-4 win over the Soaring Eagles.

Elmira's defense stood tall against the Pioneers all evening, as Alfred State peppered the Purple and Gold's starting netminder, Jacob Mattice '21, with 24 shots on goal. Mattice stood tall with 14 saves, while EC's defensive unit forced Alfred State into 22 turnovers.

Alfred State matched the Soaring Eagles' intensity on the other side of the ball, as the Pioneers limited EC to eight shots and frame and caused Elmira to commit 27 turnovers.

The Pioneers jumped on the Purple and Gold early, scoring the first four goals of the contest over a four minute timespan. Alfred State's Joe Johnson supplied three of the markers to push the home side out to an early lead. James Mayer '20 halted the run with just under four minutes to play in the opening quarter.

Despite stopping the initial barrage, Alfred State's offense broke through for a quartet of goals in a dominant second quarter. EC struck first coming out of the halftime break, as Mayer added his second unassisted tally of the evening. The scoring quieted from there until Alfred tacked on two more midway through the final quarter. Kenny Powell '19 and Sam Shaw '22 added on a goal apiece for Elmira, but the damage was already done.
