ELMIRA, N.Y. -- The Elmira College men's lacrosse team dropped an Empire 8 Conference battle to The Sage Colleges at Notre Dame High School on Saturday evening, as the visiting Gators earned a 14-4 win over EC.
The Soaring Eagles were unable to overcome an early barrage from the Gators, as Sage rushed out to an 8-0 lead in the first half of play. Turnovers played a large role in tonight's contest, as Sage forced Elmira into 31 miscues. The Purple and Gold answered by forcing Sage into 27 turnovers, but the Gators were able to fend off EC's offense all evening.
Jacob Mattice '21 stood tall in net once again, as the sophomore tallied 15 saves.
EC finally broke through via rookie
Sam Shaw '22 early in the third quarter, as the first-year talent buried a feed from
John Broyles '19.
Spencer Carter '20 added the Purple and Gold's second marker just over a minute later, as the junior scored his first career goal.
Shaw added another marker to open the scoring in the fourth quarter, which cut the Gator's lead to 12-3.
David Keisler '20 scored his fourth goal of the season with six minutes to play, but the early damage by Sage was the difference.
