ELMIRA, N.Y. -- At the Student-Athlete Welcome Back barbeque last week, Elmira College's Director of Athletics, Renee Carlineo, announced a new initiative by the department of athletics for the 2019-20 academic year featuring a new slogan – One Team, One Elmira, One Community.

The new motto symbolizes the student-athlete's dedication to their individual team, the College as a whole, and the greater Elmira community at large. To show their commitment, every EC student-athlete signed a banner displaying the new athletics logo and the One Team, One Elmira, One Community tagline. By doing so, they agreed to upload the following commitments:

One Team

• I will show up as my best self every single day to class, to practice, to competitions, and in all situations affecting my success as an Elmira College Student-Athlete as this has a direct effect on the success of my team and teammates.
• I will uphold the policies and values of the Elmira College Handbook, Elmira College Student Code of Conduct, the EC Athletics Handbook, and the National Collegiate Athletic Association.
• I will be a dedicated teammate and always put the trust of my teammates and culture of my team at the heart of my decisions.

One Elmira

• We recognize that our team is part of a larger campus community and our actions directly impact the culture of our campus.  We accept responsibility for our actions and continually strive to build a positive campus culture.
• We will show respect and compassion to peers, faculty, staff, and administration understanding that every single person on our campus is integral to success.
• We acknowledge that our actions and words have real consequences.  As student-athletes, coaches, and athletics staff, we represent more than our self. We represent each other and our entire campus.  We will act with discretion, respect, integrity, responsibility, and humility.

One Community

• We recognize that as a campus, we are part of the larger Elmira community and our presence within this community is based on the values of respect, safety, and service.
• We will be a force of change and growth positively impacting the City of Elmira, its residents, and its collective energy.
• We will represent Elmira wherever we go with pride, integrity, tradition, and success.

"As EC student-athletes and teams, we do not exist in a bubble," Carlineo explained. "We are a vital point of the campus and community, and we all need each other to thrive. Our student-athletes and staff have all committed to the values of One Team, One Elmira, One Community, and work every day to support each other in living up to this promise."
