Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

No. 4-Ranked Elmira Continues to Roll with 3-0 Shutout of Neumann

ASTON, Pa. -- A trio of goals in a six-minute span in the first period was all the No. 4-ranked Elmira College women's ice hockey team needed, as the Soaring Eagles cruised to a 3-0 road win against Neumann University. With the win, Elmira extended its win streak to eight games and improved to 15-2-2 (10-1-0 UCHC North), while the Knights of Neumann fell to 9-11-0 (6-5-0 UCHC South).

Junior forward Devyn Gilman '21 led the charge offensively this afternoon with a team-high two points. Gilman scored a power-play goal and assisted on Elmira's game-winner.

Gilman was one of six point producers this afternoon. Joining her on the scoresheet were goal scorers Mary McCafferty '22 and Claire Meeder '23, as well as Ariella Haas '22, Kiana Melvin '20, and Emma Crocker '21, who were credited with assists.

Stephanie Martin '22 started in net for the Soaring Eagles and made 12 saves in 60 minutes of action. Martin improved to 6-2-1 on the year with today's victory.

Elmira set the tone early in this afternoon's bout with a trio of first-period goals in the opening six minutes.

It only took 38 seconds for the Soaring Eagles to capture the first lead of the game, as McCafferty netted her sixth goal of the season on assists from Gilman and Haas. Less than four minutes later, Gilman doubled the Elmira lead at the 4:14 mark on the power play with her eighth goal of the 2019-20 campaign. Melvin and Crocker were credited with assists on the scoring play.

Then, rounding out the three-goal first period, Meeder found the back of the cage at 5:44 to make it a 3-0 EC advantage. For Meeder, it was her second goal of the season and the first unassisted tally of her career.

Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the second period, despite both squads going on the power play twice.  The third period played out in a similar fashion, as EC held Neumann scoreless on a pair of power-play attempts, while going empty on one chance of its own.

Elmira's Martin made nine saves over the final two periods to preserve the shutout win, including a five-save effort in the third frame.
