Jung Logs Career-High 14 Points in 87-77 Loss at Houghton

HOUGHTON, N.Y. -- Three players logged double-digit points for the Elmira College men's basketball team at Houghton College on Saturday afternoon, but the Soaring Eagles were clipped, 87-77, in their penultimate game of the regular season.

After shooting a mere 26.4% on Friday night at Alfred University, the Soaring Eagles looked much better offensively against the Highlanders. EC made 28-of-71 attempts for a 39.4 field-goal percentage. Houghton was slightly better, as the Highlanders converted 27-of-62 shots, equaling a rate of 43.5%. The biggest difference between the two teams was foul shooting; EC made 15-of-18 free throws, whereas Houghton finished 25-of-31 from the line.

In the first start of his freshman season, Jeff Jung Jr. '23 recorded career highs in points (14), rebounds (8), and assists (4) for the Soaring Eagles. Jung, a Rochester, New York, native, was 5-of-12 (41.7%) from the floor and 4-of-6 (66.7%) from the charity stripe while playing a season-high 27 minutes.

Tied with Jung with a team-leading 14 points was fourth-year guard Jesse Adelson '20. Adelson moved into three-way tie for sixth place in program history by making three 3-pointers, increasing his career total to 156 treys. He also added two rebounds, two assists, and two steals during Saturday's contest.

Fellow senior Jeremy Every '20 reached double figures for the third time in his last four games by pouring in 11 points. Kyle Kokoskie '22 and Shawn Backus '21 weren't far behind with eight points apiece.

For the hosts, Jordan Holmes paced all players with a 32-point, 15-rebound double-double. Billy McCrae and Scottie Berghaus added 18 and 11 points, respectively, for the Highlanders, who led 41-36 at halftime and never trailed in the second half.
