ELMIRA, N.Y. -- Heavy snowfall across Western New York has forced the Elmira College Department of Athletics to alter this weekend's basketball and ice hockey schedules.
Friday's regularly-scheduled Empire 8 Conference basketball games against Nazareth have been shifted to Saturday, February 8, with the men's basketball team tipping off at 2:00 p.m., followed by the women's matchup with Naz at 4:00 p.m. On Sunday, February 9, the Soaring Eagles will take on St. John Fisher on Pat Thompson '75 Court at Speidel Gymnasium. The Elmira men will face the Cardinals at 2:00 p.m., with the women's game set to begin at 4:00 p.m.
Wilkes has postponed Friday night's United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) matchup against the No. 4-ranked Elmira women's ice hockey team. A makeup date will be announced as soon as it is determined.
No. 15 Elmira men's ice hockey and No. 4 Utica are still scheduled to skate tonight at the Murray Athletic Center. The opening puck drop for the top-15 matchup between the UCHC rivals is 7:00 p.m. A shuttle bus will be available to transport EC students from campus to the MAC, departing from the bus loop on West Seventh Street at 6:30 p.m. The shuttle will return to campus after the conclusion of the ice hockey game at approximately 9:00 p.m. Limited seating is available. The College is urging students interested in attending to take the shuttle and does not recommend students drive themselves due to safety concerns.
Saturday's ice hockey games – EC women at King's (Pa.) at 3:00 p.m. and Elmira men against Nazareth at the MAC at 7:00 p.m. – have not been affected by the inclement weather.
