ELMIRA, N.Y. -- The Elmira College women's ice hockey team unveiled their 2021-22 regular season schedule on Friday afternoon, featuring 10 home games inside the Murray Athletic Center with 15 games on the road. The opening week of the season features one road (Nazareth, Oct. 22) exhibition game followed by a road (Cortland, Oct. 23) exhibition before kicking the regular season off at Utica on October 30.
This season, the Soaring Eagles will compete in the NEHC (New England Hockey Conference). The transition marks the end of a four-year stint in the UCHC where the Soaring Eagles captured four conference championships in a row.
The Soaring Eagles begin their 6th regular season under the direction of Head Coach
Tim Crowley when traveling to Utica for a matchup with the Pioneers on Halloween Eve inside the Adirondack Back Center at the Utica Memorial Auditorium. Following a quick trip to begin the season, the Soaring Eagles return back to the MAC for its home-opener against Salem State on November 5. Elmira College will honor the life of Janie Huntley-Park '09. A four-year letter winner on the EC women's ice hockey team, Huntley-Park helped the Soaring Eagles win two ECAC West titles and reach the NCAA Division III Tournament three times, including a runner-up finish as a senior in the 2009 national championship game. Huntley-Park, 33, and her husband, Ryan Park, 32, were tragically killed in a wrong-way collision on Interstate 5 in California earlier this year.
Following the home opener, EC will be back in action against Southern Maine on November 6 which will offer the Elmira faithful their first opportunity to see NEHC competition inside the MAC. The following weekend, Elmira takes on William Smith in a home-and-home series (November 12-13), with the opener being played on the road before returning home the following day.
Elmira is tasked with two lengthy road trips during the season, the first happening from November 19-28. After road contests against Johnson & Wales (Nov. 19) and UMass Boston (Nov. 20), Elmira will head to Plattsburgh to take part in the Cardinal/Panther Classic from November 27-28. After taking on Middlebury on Saturday, the Soaring Eagles will be tasked with either Plattsburgh State or Endicott in either the Championship or Consolation game the following day. The tournament conclusion will end a four-game stint away from home.
EC returns to their home ice on December 3 as they take on Castleton and Plymouth State (Dec. 4). The Soaring Eagles will wrap up 2021 after taking part in the Norwich East-West Hockey Classic in Northfield, Vermont on December 11-12. After taking on Plattsburgh, the Soaring Eagles will either face Norwich, the four-time defending NEHC Champions, or Adrian College the following day.
After nearly a month off due to the holiday break, EC continues their longest road trip of the season with games at New England (Jan. 7), Norwich (Jan. 8), Southern Maine (Ja. 14), and Salem State (Jan. 15).
Crowley's team returns home after almost a month and a half away from their home ice when they take on Trinity (Jan. 18) before heading to Rochester to take on the Golden Flyers from Nazareth College on January 22.
The Purple & Gold conclude their regular season with four of their final six games at home. After clashing with UMass Boston (Jan. 28) and Johnson & Wales (Jan. 29), EC hits the road for their final two road games of the regular season where they'll take on Plymouth State (Feb. 4) and Castleton (Feb. 5).
The final weekend of the regular season offers home games against Norwich (Feb. 11) and New England (Feb. 12).
