Women's Soccer Drops Overtime Heartbreaker at Home, 2-1

ELMIRA, N.Y. -- The Elmira College women's soccer team dropped an Empire 8 conference match against Hartwick, 2-1, in overtime on Wednesday afternoon at Campus Field. Taylor Wilms '22 scored the equalizer in the 70th minute for the Soaring Eagles, while Nevaeh Winston '25 turned away 13 shots in goal for EC.

JUST THE BASICS:
SCORE: Elmira 1, Hartwick 2 (OT)
LOCATION: Elmira, NY
TEAM RECORDS: Elmira (3-8-2, 0-3-2 E8), Hartwick (5-1-3, 3-0-1 E8)

HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Hawks opened the scoring in the 20th minute as Julia Collado was able to find the back of the net. Winston would stand tall in net for EC as she recorded five saves in the opening half to keep the Soaring Eagles within striking distance. Hartwick held a 4-0 advantage in corners while also controlling the pace of play.

In the second half, Winston would make a pair of huge saves early to keep the score at 1-0 and allow EC to gain some momentum. The Soaring Eagles found the equalizer at the 69:50 mark as Wilms found her way past a pair of Hartwick defenders and beat the goalkeeper. Elmira's defense along with the play of Winston would keep the Hawks off the scoreboard as extra time would be needed to decide a winner.

Hartwick would tally the game-winning goal just 1:17 into the first overtime as Julia Bono beat Winston off a feed from Abigail McCleary. Lauralie Grainer '25 and Emma Clegg '23 each finished with a shot on goal for the Soaring Eagles.
