ELMIRA, N.Y. -- The Elmira College women's soccer team dropped an Empire 8 conference match against Utica, 1-0, on Saturday afternoon at Campus Field. The Purple & Gold held a pregame ceremony to honor seniors Adrianna Cornell '22, Cassidy Buchman '22, and Taylor Wilms '22.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Utica would find the back of the net in the 26th minute as Sydney Cook followed up her initial shot off of the right post to beat Nevaeh Winston '25. The Soaring Eagles notched a pair of shots on frame in the opening half as Cornell had her shot denied in the 22nd minute by Courtney Connolly. Rachel Bortnick '25 looked to even the score in the 27th minute for EC but would have her attempt denied.
The intensity would pick up for both sides in the second half as EC and Utica combined for nine total fouls. Winston would keep the Soaring Eagles in the contest with a pair of huge saves in the 51st and 56th minute. She added a pair of saves later in the contest for the Purple & Gold. Wilms and Bortnick each had good looks for EC in the half but would be unable to find the equalizer.
Winston finished with eight saves in the contest for Elmira, while Bortnick finished with a pair of shots on goal.
