ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Elmira College Women's Volleyball team fell in straight sets to the Nazareth Golden Flyers on Thursday Night inside Kidera Gymnasium. The Purple & Gold dropped a tightly contested second set before the Golden Flyers secured another Empire 8 win.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Nazareth opened the match with a 5-0 run before EC used a 3-0 run of its own to trim the deficit to 6-4. Maddie Hampton '24 and Amelia Martin '23 highlighted the run for the Soaring Eagles to help swing the momentum. The Golden Flyers later used a 7-0 rally to take control of the set as EC used both of its timeouts. Nazareth hit .333 in the set and would take a 1-0 lead in the match following a 25-10 victory.
The Soaring Eagles looked like they would take advantage of a quick 6-1 start in the second set. EC increased its lead to 8-3 following a kill from Kaylene Sauschuck '22 and another service ace from Martin. Nazareth would piece together several rallies in the set as the Golden Flyers gained momentum late. EC trimmed the deficit to 23-22 following an attack error before Nazareth tallied consecutive points to secure the 25-22 victory.
In the third set, Maddie Boucher '24 provided some early offense for EC as she notched back-to-back kills. Trailing 17-11 in the set, the Purple & Gold used a 4-0 rally to pull within two points of Nazareth as Sauschuck and Martin sparked the run. The Golden Flyers scored seven of the final eight points in the set to secure the 25-17 victory and 3-0 sweep of the match.
Sauschuck paced the Soaring Eagles with five kills, while Boucher and Calli Vocke '23 each added four kills on the night. Asia Curkendall '25 tallied 20 assists for EC, while Hampton added 10 digs for the Purple & Gold.

The Soaring Eagles are back inside Speidel Gymnasium on Tuesday, Oct. 19 with a 6:00 PM contest against Empire 8 foe Alfred. EC continues its conference slate with a road contest against Hartwick on Friday, Oct. 22 at 6:00 PM.
