Soaring Eagles Defeat Mount Holyoke on Saturday Afternoon

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass.  – The Elmira College Women's Basketball team improved their season record to 4-0 with a 54-39 victory over the Lyons from Mount Holyoke College on Saturday afternoon. The Soaring Eagles were led by Desiree Roy '25 who finished with her second consecutive double-double, dropping 14 points while collecting 10 rebounds. Three other Soaring Eagles neared double-digit outings, as Taylor Jung '25, Taylor Albrecht '22, and Olivia Ayres '25 combined for 25 points.

HOW IT HAPPENED :
The Soaring Eagles got off to a slow start and trailed 11-9 after the first quarter. Despite the early deficit, the Purple & Gold would go on to outscore the Lyons in each of the remaining three quarters.
 
Despite shooting just 21.1% in the opening quarter, the Lyons held the early advantage after forcing 13 Soaring Eagles turnovers compared to just five for the hosts.
 
In the second, the Soaring Eagles regained the lead as Ayres converted on two of her three shots from beyond the arc with Roy adding four points to the mix. Elmira went to the break ahead by just one, 24-23.
 
For the half, the Soaring Eagles shot 34.6% from the floor compared to 24.3% for the Lyons.
 
Out of the break, Elmira propelled themselves to the largest lead of the game at 15 with just 1:37 remaining due to a 15-0 run after the game was tied at 28. Following the run, the Soaring Eagles were able to continue their pace and end the game with a 54-39 win after outscoring the hosts 11-7 in the fourth quarter.
 
For the game, EC shot 34.5% compared to 20.8% for Mount Holyoke. EC was able to force 22 Lyons turnovers despite committing 34 of their own.
