Elmira Drops Tuesday Tilt 4-3 Against Buffalo State

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Elmira College Men's Ice Hockey team dropped their Tuesday evening matchup against the Bengals from Buffalo State, 4-3. After trailing 1-0 after the first period, the Bengals surged for four of the next five goals on their way to victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Elmira was first on the board first after the Soaring Eagles' leading point scorer Janis Vizbelis '24 scored on assists from Shawn Kennedy '24 and Jake Russo '23 just six minutes into play. Following the goal, the offense would go quiet for both teams for the duration of the period with the Purple & Gold leading 1-0 headed into the first intermission.
 
After facing eight shots in the first period, Elmira goalkeeper Chris Janzen '21 would face the same amount in the second, allowing four to reach the back of the net. After Buffalo State scored on a power-play opportunity to tie the game, the Bengals would score once again at the midway point in the period to take a 2-1 lead.
 
Elmira would even the score at 2-2 after Jared Smith '24 with under five minutes remaining in the period on assists from Chance Gorman '24 and Christian Abrams '25.
 
Over the next two and a half minutes of play, the Bengals would jump out to their largest lead of the night, two goals, after Nikita Kozyrev and Andrew Logar scored goals to close out the period giving Buffalo State a 4-2 lead.
 
The Soaring Eagles would make one final attempt at evening the score as Vizbelis notched his second of the night on an assist from Marty Kapoian '22. With 12 minutes to play, Bengal goalkeeper Connor Minch was able to hold off the EC attack to secure a 4-3 win for the Bengals.

Elmira will be back in action following the Thanksgiving break when they take on Castleton on Friday, December 3 in Castleton, Vermont before returning to the ice the following day against Skidmore.
