Soaring Eagles Down Top-Ranked Plattsburgh St. In Overtime, 4-3

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The fifth-ranked Elmira College Women's Ice Hockey program responded with a 4-3 overtime victory against top-ranked Plattsburgh St. to claim third at the Cardinal/Panther Classic on Sunday.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Skating 3-on-3 in overtime, Eliza Beaudin '22 would beat Plattsburgh St. goalkeeper Lilla Nease after taking a shot from the left faceoff circle to secure a 4-3 victory for the Purple & Gold. Beaudin's tally at the 3:11 mark would be set up by an outlet pass from Morgan Mordini '22.

The Soaring Eagles would rally to knot the score 1-1 early in the second period as Mary McCafferty '22 scored the first of her two goals for Elmira at the 1:08 mark. Jenna Ellis '24 and Leonie-Louise Kuehberger '25 were both credited with the assists on McCafferty's second goal in as many days.

Plattsburgh St. scored midway through the second period to take a 2-1 lead before Elmira would score with just over a minute left to play to even the score. Holley Riva '23 would light the lamp for the Soaring Eagles at the 18:55 mark after taking a pass from Brooke McArdle '22.

Despite taking a late penalty to end the second period, Elmira converted on its third short-handed goal of the season to take a 3-2 lead at the 1:10 mark of the third period. McCafferty added her second goal of the game and third in two games to give the Purple & Gold a one-goal cushion.

The Cardinals answered with the equalizer at the 7:54 mark of the period as Nicole Unsworth scored unassisted to make it 3-3.

Along with registering her first collegiate assist, Kuehberger improved to 6-1 between the pipes this season for the Soaring Eagles. Kuehberger finished with 44 saves in the contest after stopping 17 shots in the first period.
