Soaring Eagles Skate Past Castleton on Friday Night, 3-0

ELMIRA, N.Y. – The third-ranked Elmira College Women's Ice Hockey program returned home to open the month of December as the Soaring Eagles recorded their sixth shutout of the season in a 3-0 victory against Castleton on Friday in a New England Hockey Conference matchup.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Soaring Eagles would get onto the scoreboard just three minutes into the contest as Sabrina Shvartsman '25 beat Castleton goalkeeper Kirsten DiCicco to make it 1-0. Jenny Heath '22 and Brianna Haviland '22 assisted on the eventual game-winning goal by Shvartsman.

Elmira brought the defensive pressure early in the contest as the Purple & Gold held the Spartans without a shot on goal in the period while putting 12 shots on net against DiCicco.

Castleton looked to capitalize early in the second period against Elmira as the Spartans applied some pressure against Elmira netminder Leonie-Louise Kuehberger '25. After successfully killing a penalty midway through the frame it would be Morgan Mordini '22 scoring her fourth goal of the season to give Elmira a 2-0 advantage at the 10-minute mark.

Holding a two-goal advantage entering the third period Erika Goleniak '25 beat the Spartans defense and used a backhanded shot to light the lamp and put the Purple & Gold on top 3-0 at the 5:38 mark off assists from Emma Crocker '21 and Mary McCafferty '22.

Crocker and Heath each finished with a pair of assists on the night for the Soaring Eagles, while Kuehberger notched her third shutout of the season and improved to 7-1-0 between the pipes. Elmira held a 38-11 advantage in shots in the contest with Madi Morton '24 registering a team-high seven for the Purple & Gold.
