PINE VALLEY, N.Y. – The Elmira College Women's Ice Hockey team picked up a weekend sweep with their 4-0 win over the Huskies from Southern Maine on Saturday afternoon inside the Murray Athletic Center. The Soaring Eagles picked up the game-winning goal in the first period and never looked back as Holley Riva '23 scored nearing the end of the first period.

JUST THE BASICS:
SCORE: Elmira 4, Southern Maine 0
LOCATION: Pine Valley, N.Y. | Murray Athletic Center
TEAM RECORDS: Elmira (3-0-0, 2-0-0 NEHC), Southern Maine (2-2-0, 1-1-0 NEHC)

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Offense for both sides was stagnant throughout nearly the entire opening period, despite a total of 28 shots between the teams in the opening frame. With 1:36 seconds remaining in the opening period, the Soaring Eagles were able to find the back of the net as Brooke McArdle '22 and McKenzie Schmidt '25 found Riva for the score. It was Riva's first goal of the season despite notching assists in each of the first two games this season.

Leonie-Louise Kuehberger '25 faced seven shots in the first period, making saves on each. The seven first period shots faced by Kuehberger was nearly twice as much as the goalkeeping staff for Elmira faced a night ago.

In the second period, it took just under four minutes for the Purple & Gold to score a pair of goals, as Emma Crocker '21  & Madi Morton '24 both joined the point column. With the first being assisted by Morton and Eliza Beaudin '22, the second off the stick of Morton received assists from Mary McCafferty '22 and Beaudin once again.

In the third, it took just five minutes for Elmira to extend their lead to four as Crocker found the back of the net for the second time on assists from Beaudin & Morton. Three points on the day for Morton tied a career-high for the second-year Soaring Eagle skater.

Kuehberger finished the game with 19 saves in net for EC, while Southern Maine goaltender Haley McKim finished with 47 saves.

UP NEXT:
Elmira will be back in action next Friday as they take on William Smith in a home-and-home series. Friday will be on the road in Geneva before the Soaring Eagles return home on Saturday at 3:00 PM.
