Soaring Eagles Fall at Home to Juniata on Wednesday Evening

ELMIRA, N.Y. – The Elmira College Women's Basketball team dropped its first home contest of the year on Wednesday evening to the Eagles from Juniata College, 62-53. The Eagles made the most of their heavy number of attempts from beyond the arc, as well as efficiency from the free throw line in the win. The Soaring Eagles were led on the offensive end by Taylor Albrecht '22, who finished the game with 14 points and nine rebounds. Alyssa Waters '22 notched 13 points, five rebounds, and five assists in the loss.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Both squads seemingly struggled from the floor in the first few minutes of the game, but the Soaring Eagles maintained a 6-0 lead, all from the hands of Albrecht. From there, Juniata was able to crack the scoreboard and use a 14-6 run over the next four minutes of play to take their first lead of the ball game at 14-12. The period continued with shared buckets, but it was Albrecht who would give Elmira a 17-16 lead at the end of the opening frame on a made free throw. Albrecht finished the period with nine points.
 
The second quarter saw nearly a 40% decrease in shooting percentage from the floor for Elmira, but they were able to maintain ground as the Soaring Eagles forced five Juniata turnovers in the quarter. Despite shooting troubles from both teams, the Soaring Eagles found themselves down just five headed into halftime. In the opening half, the Soaring Eagles shot 41.7% from the floor compared to 30.0% for Juniata. The visitors secured the halftime victory as EC shot just 41.2% from the stripe.
 
The Soaring Eagles cut the Juniata lead to just three headed into the fourth quarter as the visitors shot just 5-of-21 from the floor in the period. Both Albrecht and Waters cracked double-digit scoring in the period.
 
In the fourth, the game played back and forth until Elmira was forced to foul, leaving Juniata with a 62-53 victory.
 
For the game, the Eagles scored 14 points off turnovers compared to eight for Elmira, while converting on a handful of second-chance points as a result of 22 offensive rebounds.
