Men's Lacrosse Explodes For 15-4 Win at Wells

AURORA, N.Y. -- First-year attackman Matt Daley '24 had a game to remember, leading the Elmira College men's lacrosse team to a 15-4 rout of Wells College on Saturday afternoon.

A freshman from Plymouth, Massachusetts, Daley put on an impressive offensive display for the Soaring Eagles (1-1). He led all players with an eye-popping seven goals and eight points. Daley's seven goals are the most by an Elmira player in a game in nearly nine years, tying Jackson Correia '14 and his performance against Utica College on April 21, 2012.

Daley wasn't the only Soaring Eagle to fill up the scoresheet against Wells (0-1). Sam Shaw '22 tied a career-high with six points (3g-3a), followed by Brennan Bitely '24 with a season-high five points (2g-3a). Sam Crary '23 (1g-1a) and Cameron Lambert '21 (1g-1a) also had multiple points for EC.

Rounding out the offensive production was Jay Uebelacker '24 with one goal, while David Frederick '24 and Zach Ronan '22 each had one assist.

Senior goalkeeper Jacob Mattice '21, who made 11 saves in the contest, helped keep the Express off the scoreboard for nearly 19 minutes between the first and second quarters. During that span, EC went on a six-goal run that turned a 2-1 lead into an 8-1 cushion. Daley capped off the rally with a natural hat trick, potting three consecutive goals in 3:13.

Shaw and Daley each netted one man-up goal in the second half. Daley's extra-man score was part of a four-goal run to cap the fourth quarter, which extended Elmira's already comfortable 11-4 lead into an 11-goal victory.
