ALFRED, N.Y. -- The Elmira College women's volleyball team split a pair of matches against Alfred University on Saturday afternoon. The Saxons (4-5, 3-3 E8) won the opening match, one that counted towards the Empire 8 Conference standings, in three sets and the Soaring Eagles (5-2, 3-2 E8) claimed the nightcap in five sets.
Alfred 3, Elmira 0 (25-20, 25-22, 25-13)
Alfred hit a 22.6% clip (35-16e-84ta) in the opening match of the day, while holding Elmira to a 4.5% attack percentage (26k-22e-88ta) en route to a three-set win.
Amelia Martin '23 paced the Purple and Gold with seven kills on 19 attempts. She also added two digs and one block.
Lauren Smith '21 and
Kaylene Sauschuck '22 were not far behind Martin's kill total, as they both chipped in six apiece. Smith also produced nine digs, two aces and one block. Sauschuck also had one block.
Kassi Hastings '21 finished with 21 assists, five digs, one block and one ace.
Elmira 3, Alfred 2 (25-17, 16-25, 25-13, 21-25, 15-10)
Elmira edged Alfred in five sets, as the two sides traded set-after-set until the Soaring Eagles clinched the match.
Smith led the Soaring Eagles with an 11-kill 12-dig double-double effort.
Maddie Boucher '24 was one dig shy of a double-double with 10 kills and nine digs. She also registered four service aces.
Martin and
Savannah Terry '21 added seven and six kills, respectively. Martin logged seven digs, while Terry recorded a trio of digs and service aces.
Hastings finished with 27 assists, nine digs and a pair of service aces.
Cassidy Ryan '24 added 10 assists and two digs.
