ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- For the second time in as many days, the Elmira College baseball team faced Empire 8 Conference-leading St. John Fisher College in a doubleheader. On Saturday, the Cardinals picked up two wins at their home ballpark, 6-0 and 12-2.

RJ Kuruts put on an impressive pitching display to lead the Cardinals (21-4, 12-0 E8) to a shutout victory in the first half of Saturday's doubleheader. Kuruts scattered four hits and two walks across 7.0 inning. More notably, he struck out 16 of the 27 batters he faced along the way.

Lead-off batter Colin McLaughlin '22 finished 1-for-2 with a walk. Shake Hake '21 was 1-for-3 with a stolen base. Second baseman Jared Money '22 had the most success at the plate for the Soaring Eagles (3-20, 1-8 E8), as the junior Californian collected two hits in three tries.

In his first collegiate start, southpaw Jack Finnerty '23 tossed a career-high 4.0 innings. The Canton, New York, native allowed three runs on six hits with two strikeouts.

St. John Fisher 12, Elmira 2
EC actually had one less hit in the nightcap but managed to drove in a pair of runs against Fisher's Game No. 2 starter, Hunter Walsh. In the fifth inning, Michael Millross '23 was walked and raced home on a double off the bat of Joe Morrone '22. In the seventh, Money and James Delaney '22 were both walked to help load the bases. A wild pitch from relief pitcher Joseph Tronetti gave Money enough time to race home from third.

Morrone was responsible for two of Elmira's three hits, as the slugging first baseman batted 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles. Shortstop Mason Ryan '22 had the other base knock and finished 1-for-3 with a walk.

Millross, who started the contest as Elmira's designated hitter, moved to the mound and had the most success of any EC pitcher on Saturday. The Ottawa, Ontario, native tossed 2.0 shutout innings with only one hit surrendered.
