Empire 8 Release
ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Elmira College's student-athletes and varsity athletics programs continued their high level of achievement in the classroom during Term II of the 2020-21 academic year. With the announcement of the Spring 2021 Empire 8 Conference President's List and All-Academic Team Awards on Wednesday, a total of 85 Soaring Eagles and 10 teams were recognized.
In order to qualify for the Empire 8 President's List, student-athletes must be enrolled full-time, possess a grade-point average of 3.75 or higher during the semester, and display positive conduct on and off campus. As stated by the conference, "Its commitment to serve the educational needs of its student-athletes is the hallmark of the Empire 8 Conference."
In total, the Empire 8 honored 986 student-athletes with President's List distinction this spring, which accounts for over 29% of all student-athletes in the conference. The average GPA for the E8's 3,302 student-athletes this semester was 3.29.
In addition, 135 teams from across the Empire 8 garnered All-Academic Team awards for registering a team GPA of at least 3.20. From Elmira, that included women's volleyball (3.76), field hockey (3.57), women's ice hockey (3.54), women's soccer (3.47), softball (3.46), men's ice hockey (3.39), men's soccer (3.32), women's basketball (3.27), women's wrestling (3.22), and women's lacrosse (3.20).
